Requirements

  • 10+ years of Core DBA experience, with significant time spent supporting high‑volume production environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
  • Extensive, hands‑on experience managing Azure SQL Managed Instance in production.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of: SQL Server locking and concurrency internals, Blocking, deadlocks, and lock escalation patterns, Transaction isolation levels and practical tradeoffs, Query execution plans, indexing strategies, and statistics management, Tempdb architecture and behavior in managed platforms

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, lock escalation patterns, and contention hot spots.
  • Establish accurate performance baselines using native Azure SQL Managed Instance diagnostic tooling.
  • Reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of database‑related incidents.
  • Deliver clear, prioritized recommendations with measurable, high‑impact outcomes.
  • Perform rapid assessments using Query Store, DMVs, wait statistics, blocking graphs, and deadlock captures.
  • Diagnose root causes related to: Inefficient or unstable query plans, Missing, redundant, or suboptimal indexing, Transaction scope issues and inappropriate isolation levels, Tempdb contention, and Resource governance constraints in Azure SQL MI
  • Tune queries, indexes, and statistics to reduce latency and improve throughput.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to transaction boundaries and isolation strategies to reduce blocking.
  • Deploy targeted fixes that improve stability without requiring large‑scale application changes.
  • Investigate and address recurring performance regressions tied to deployments or batch operations.
