About The Position

Travelers Data Engineering team constructs pipelines that contextualize and provide easy access to data by the entire enterprise. As a Data Engineering Senior Director you will accelerate growth and transformation of our analytics landscape. In this role, you will lead teams designing and building data solutions that capture, explore, transform and utilize data to support Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and business intelligence/insights. In addition to ingesting data from multiple sources and relaying information to relevant partners, you will also mentor and develop a team of data engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
  • 7 additional years of data engineering experience.
  • 2 years of technical leadership experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM related field or equivalent.
  • Eight or more years of related work experience.
  • Four or more years of team leadership and people management experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in data tools, techniques, and manipulation including cloud platforms (AWS), programming languages, and technology platforms.
  • Exposure to AI technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Data Engineering Practice Leadership: Establish and enforce enterprise data engineering standards, reference architectures, and delivery practices, driving reuse, consistency, and faster time-to-production.
  • Lead development of analytic data products, including pilots and proof of concepts.
  • AI Enablement & Developer Experience: Embed AI into engineering workflows through automation, tooling, and standards that improve developer productivity, consistency, and trust.
  • AI-Driven Data Product Access: Enable easy, secure access to certified and trusted data products through AI-powered discovery, semantic layers, and self-service interfaces, allowing engineers and consumers to quickly find, understand, and use the right data with confidence.
  • Execute data strategies to support various consumption patterns and identify enterprise architecture, platform, and application infrastructure needs.
  • Drive the operationalizing and automating of all capabilities to ensure secure, supported and scalable solutions.
  • Present analysis and recommendations to help influence management and executive leadership decisions.
  • Guide and coach senior team members to accelerate career development.
  • Establish budgets, policies and practices with significant impact on area operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
