About The Position

Microsoft’s Washington State & Global Employee Engagement (WSGEE) team sits at the intersection of public policy, philanthropy, and employee engagement. The team is responsible for strengthening the company’s long‑term trust, credibility, and impact across Washington State, while also driving employee giving and volunteerism across the world. We align these functions to advance issues that matter most to our home region, including education, transportation, housing affordability, education, sustainability, arts and culture, and a healthy economy. To advance our employee-focused efforts, the team is seeking a Senior Director of Employee Activation. This position is a senior leadership role within the team, responsible for setting and executing Microsoft’s strategy to activate employees as engaged members of their community through giving, volunteering, board service, and policy‑aligned advocacy—while strengthening trust in Microsoft and our impact. This role oversees Microsoft's flagship employee "Give" program, which generated $255.6 million in employee contributions and 1.2 million volunteer hours in 2025, supporting 36,500 nonprofits across 110 countries. The position is responsible for driving strategic expansion into new areas for Washington State employees, including employee board service, civic engagement, and advocacy programs that align with the team’s policy priorities. The Senior Director will report to the General Manager, Washington State & Global Employee Engagement program, in the Office of the Vice Chair and President (CELA HQ). The position will be based at the Microsoft Campus in Redmond, Washington.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree AND 8+ years work experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR), philanthropies, corporate affairs, government affairs, business and international development, or related area OR Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years work experience in corporate social responsibility (CSR), philanthropies, corporate affairs, government affairs, business and international development, or related area
  • equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for program strategy, operations, partner management, and employee experience.
  • Manage budget planning, resource allocation, and vendor/partner relationships.
  • Evolve the company’s employee engagement model to reflect changing employee expectations, community needs, and business priorities.
  • Partner with HR and internal stakeholders to assess employee sentiment, interests, and readiness through research, listening, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Serve as a senior leader on the WSGEE team, partnering closely with Government Affairs, Philanthropy, and Communications, to ensure alignment and impact.
  • Oversee the design, performance, and continuous improvement of Microsoft’s employee giving and volunteering programs, including annual campaigns, always-on giving, and volunteer experiences.
  • Establish success metrics and dashboards for participation, outcomes, employee sentiment, and community impact.
  • Use data and employee insights to improve engagement rates, retention of volunteers/participants, and program effectiveness.
  • Design and oversee programs that prepare and support employees to engage on boards and other civic leadership opportunities across Puget Sound.
  • In partnership with other WSGEE teams, oversee creation of high‑impact experiences (events, briefings, site visits, learning forums) that deepen employee understanding of key Washington State issues such as housing affordability, education, sustainability, and inclusive economic growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with civic organizations and community partners across Puget Sound. Help position Microsoft as a trusted, long‑term civic partner by aligning employee engagement with external investments and public commitments.
  • Support storytelling and communications that authentically reflect employee impact in communities.
