Position Summary: The Director of Procurement is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing, supplier management, and procurement operations across all manufacturing locations. This role oversees the company-wide procurement strategy for packaging materials and food ingredients, driving cost optimization, supply continuity, risk mitigation, and supplier performance. This position serves as a key strategic partner to Finance, Operations, Quality, and R&D and plays a critical role in margin protection and working capital management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 8–12+ years of progressive procurement experience in manufacturing
  • Significant experience in packaging and/or food ingredient sourcing
  • Proven leadership experience managing procurement teams
  • Strong contract negotiation and supplier management background
  • Experience managing commodity exposure and cost volatility
  • Advanced analytical and financial acumen
  • ERP system proficiency and advanced Excel skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-year procurement strategy aligned with company growth objectives
  • Establish sourcing frameworks, supplier governance models, and performance metrics
  • Lead company negotiations for high-impact contracts and long-term agreements
  • Build and maintain key supplier relationships
  • Lead sourcing strategy for corrugated, flexible film, labels, cartons, and other packaging materials
  • Negotiate pricing, supply agreements, rebates, and cost-improvement initiatives
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance (quality, service levels, OTIF, lead times)
  • Monitor commodity markets impacting packaging (resin, paperboard, freight)
  • Develop dual-source strategies and contingency plans
  • Support new product launches and packaging changes in partnership with Operations and R&D
  • Drive year-over-year cost savings and value engineering initiatives
  • Standardize indirect packaging-related spend across locations
  • Source and manage suppliers for key food ingredients
  • Monitor commodity markets (e.g., dairy, grains, oils, sweeteners) and assess cost risk
  • Negotiate ingredient contracts and pricing structures
  • Partner with Quality and R&D to ensure supplier compliance with food safety standards
  • Maintain supply continuity and approved supplier documentation
  • Assist in forecasting and purchasing aligned with production demand
  • Track purchase price variance and margin impact
  • Improve working capital through inventory optimization and payment term negotiations
  • Provide executive-level reporting on cost trends and supplier performance
  • Support audit and compliance requirements
  • Develop and manage the procurement team
  • Establish procurement policies, procedures, and controls
  • Improve ERP utilization and procurement data analytics
  • Foster cross-functional alignment across all plant locations
