We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities, and each other. Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging, and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter. As Senior Director, RF & Wireless Systems Engineering, you will lead the technical strategy, organizational direction, and execution for wireless systems across Axon’s connected device portfolio. This role will own the development and scale of a high-impact engineering organization responsible for RF architecture, cellular and multi-radio integration, antenna and systems tradeoffs, coexistence and desense mitigation, certification readiness, lab validation, and real-world field performance. You will work across a broad set of product categories, including body-worn, in-vehicle, and other embedded connected systems, ensuring Axon’s wireless capabilities are robust, scalable, and aligned to mission-critical customer needs. This leader will operate at the intersection of deep technical execution and organizational leadership, partnering closely with product management, electrical and mechanical engineering, firmware, software, operations, compliance, quality, and external vendors to drive end-to-end wireless systems excellence. This is a senior leadership role for someone who can set long-range wireless strategy, build strong teams and leaders, make sound systems-level tradeoffs, and raise the bar for execution across multiple products and technical domains.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of engineering experience, including substantial leadership experience across RF, wireless, systems, or related hardware engineering domains
  • Proven success leading managers, technical leads, and senior engineers across multiple teams or complex engineering organizations
  • Deep experience with wireless systems development involving some combination of cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, antenna integration, coexistence, desense mitigation, certification, and field validation
  • Strong systems-level judgment and ability to make tradeoffs across performance, power, cost, reliability, manufacturability, compliance, and schedule
  • Experience guiding engineering organizations from concept through production and sustaining support
  • Track record of building strong teams, developing leaders, and improving execution quality at scale
  • Ability to operate effectively across organizational boundaries and influence senior engineering, product, and business stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, executive presence, and the ability to translate technical complexity into clear priorities and decisions
  • Experience working with external vendors, technology partners, design houses, or certification stakeholders where relevant
  • Deep commitment to engineering excellence, customer impact, and organizational health

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the RF and wireless systems engineering organization, setting direction across architecture, integration, validation, and delivery for wireless capabilities spanning cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GNSS, and related technologies.
  • Define how teams operate across concept development, design reviews, system integration, coexistence mitigation, certification planning, and launch readiness, while ensuring strong alignment with product priorities and customer outcomes.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional leaders across hardware, software, firmware, product, operations, and regulatory functions to drive decisions that balance wireless performance, reliability, power, cost, thermal constraints, manufacturability, certification risk, and time to market.
  • Guide investments in tools, processes, test strategy, vendor engagement, and organizational structure so the team can scale effectively across multiple product lines and increasing system complexity.
  • Build and develop technical leaders and managers, strengthen engineering rigor, improve predictability and execution quality, and ensure Axon’s wireless systems are designed for real-world performance in demanding public safety environments.
  • Help shape portfolio-level direction, resolve cross-team tradeoffs, and serve as the senior engineering authority for RF and wireless systems strategy across the organization.
