GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE The Senior District Manager (Sr. DM) is responsible for leading through Ulta Beauty’s strategic plan and mission, vision, and values to develop high-performing teams that consistently deliver top-line sales growth for the Sr. DM’s districts. As an experienced district manager, the Sr. DM possesses next-level thinking and demonstrates the potential to do more. This leader has strong knowledge of the retail industry and store operations and leads on average a team of 3-4 districts (including their home district), which includes 50+ stores. The Sr. DM plays a critical role in building and maintaining a strong infrastructure in a rapidly evolving business through a focus on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards) for the districts. This position requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to proactively work collaboratively across all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 4-6+ years of fast-paced, high volume, multi-unit retail management experience.
  • Financial management: success with driving top-line sales, interpreting reporting data and turning insight into action, managing budgets, and controlling expense
  • Retail management: proven ability with achieving operational excellence, driving a service culture, remaining agile with changing priorities, and understanding and anticipating market trends
  • Leadership management: solid experience with attracting, developing, and motivating top talent, influencing priorities, leading others through the change-curve, developing collaborative relationships with others, and accomplishing goals through direct reports
  • Proficient with basic technology (e.g., Microsoft Office programs and Apple devices)
  • Excellent analytical skills and, written and verbal communication
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to react under pressure, apply good judgment in ambiguous situations, and be flexible/adaptable
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of your time, including overnight stays, to visit stores in all of the districts, attend corporate business meetings and conferences, or for other Ulta Beauty needs
  • Means of mobility for travel within district to visit individual stores
  • Maintain valid identification for airline travel
  • Ability to work a flexible, full-time schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Provide directional leadership, expectations, and priorities derived from the company’s strategic plan to the districts.
  • Promote a culture of accountability to meet or exceed Ulta Beauty’s goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink as set by Ulta Beauty for the Sr. DM’s districts.
  • Drive company profitability through operational excellence, top-line sales growth, and expense control for the Sr. DM’s districts.
  • Review and analyze Ulta Beauty’s financial and/or operational reports regularly for the Sr. DM’s districts and provide timely responses as needed.
  • Address underperforming metrics of stores or districts to drive company profitability and achieve Ulta Beauty’s goals set for those stores or districts.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent, and efficiently address any staffing needs and open positions in the district.
  • In partnership with the RVP and People Success, address policy violations with appropriate corrective action up to and including separation of employment fairly and in accordance with Ulta Beauty’s policies and procedures.
  • Build a highly engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through effective collaboration, open and honest communication, and prioritization of work.
  • Create an inclusive environment that inspires and encourages the growth and engagement of all associates.
  • Lead all aspects of direct report development, including training, providing individualized, competency-based feedback and coaching, performance reviews, succession planning, and individual development plans to enable continuous development and drive sales performance.
  • Model a culture of open communication by sharing enterprise strategy with direct reports and creating goals in alignment with Ulta Beauty’s goals for the districts.
  • Liaise between store staff, district leadership, and business partners to obtain resources, remove obstacles, and drive in-store improvements.
  • Build a guest-centric culture by ensuring the Guest Engagement Leader program is consistently executed throughout each store in the districts, and all guest concerns are reacted to and resolved with a sense of urgency.
  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure adherence to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Regularly visit stores in all of the Sr. DM’s districts.
  • Provide directional leadership to support the adoption of new initiatives and technology and communicate expectations for the Sr. DM’s districts.
  • Ensure the execution of all store tasks for the districts.
  • Continuously analyze performance relative to operational compliance, including shrink and audits.
  • Develop strategies to leverage company tools to improve and meet Ulta Beauty’s expectations for the districts.
  • Swiftly react to the changing needs of the business with an entrepreneurial spirit and inspire the team to do the same.
  • Regularly communicate and provide feedback to field and corporate leadership on business trends and opportunities, operational challenges, merchandise needs, and competitive landscape for all districts.
