About The Position
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer (SME) to support modification and upgrade projects at a nuclear generating facility in Southport, NC . This role will serve as a Subject Matter Expert within the Electrical Design organization, leading and supporting complex electrical and digital modification projects. The position involves assessing existing systems, developing conceptual and detailed design packages, coordinating with vendors and AEs, supporting installation and testing, and ensuring compliance with NRC cyber security regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of nuclear engineering experience
- Experience with electrical system design and plant modifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain nuclear unescorted access
- Strong communication and technical evaluation skills
Nice To Haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Digital I&C modification experience
- Experience with cyber security compliance for nuclear digital systems
- Experience with 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations
- Prior qualification as a Modification Engineer under an INPO-accredited program
Responsibilities
- Develop and review electrical design modification packages
- Create conceptual designs and technical specifications
- Evaluate design alternatives and provide technical recommendations
- Support digital control system upgrades and I&C modifications
- Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and project teams
- Ensure compliance with NRC cyber security (10 CFR 73.54) requirements
- Support 10 CFR 50.59 evaluations and modification processes
- Provide technical leadership and sound engineering judgment
