Sr. Manager, Engineering - Storage Fastly’s Storage team builds and maintains the core data platforms for Fastly's Compute and Delivery Platforms, including products like KV Store, Object Storage, Secret Store, and global real-time data pipelines. This manager role will lead a team focused on providing customers with lightning-fast access to their data and critical observability tools. You will nurture a highly talented team, driving technical direction, and building collaborative roadmaps to meet the scalability challenges of sustained company growth. While you won’t be hands-on in the code base, this role will require you to leverage a strong technical background in related distributed systems.

Requirements

• 10+ years of domain relevant software engineering experience - i.e. backend & large scale distributed systems with expertise in modern programming languages and tooling.
• 2+ years leading distributed systems engineering teams & managing engineers at all career levels
• Experience building and operating large-scale distributed platforms
• Strong product and business orientation, with the ability to connect technical investments to business outcomes
• Experience fostering inclusive, collaborative, and high-accountability engineering cultures
• Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership skills

Nice To Haves

• Having built or run large-scale storage systems and real-time logging pipelines
• A deep understanding of distributed databases and the trade-offs involved
• Building developer tooling, including ergonomic SDK design that integrates cleanly into developer workflows
• Experience with network protocols and caching concepts
• Exposure to WebAssembly

Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and support a thriving, collaborative, distributed engineering team
• Ensure collaborative cross-functional roadmap planning and maintain close partnerships across engineering, product, and other stakeholders
• Drive technical direction, providing context to technical conversations that lead to clear goals and prioritization
• Create just enough process to enable effective cross-functional planning, communication, and risk mitigation
• Recruit and hire software engineers, and provide regular feedback and career development opportunities to the team
• Clearly communicate upward and outward to set and adjust expectations for roadmaps and deliverables
