About The Position

Eaton’s Critical Power Solutions division is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead innovation across our Data Center Power Distribution (DCPD) product lines. This position can be based out of Richmond, VA (preferred) Raleigh, NC or Santa Ana, CA with approximately 25% travel. You will lead and manage a team of electrical and mechanical engineers for New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering (Maintenance of Line), Engineer to Order (ETO), and pre/post customer service support. Our DCPD product lines include, but not limited to, Static Transfer Switch, Power Distribution Unit, and Remote Power Panel. The expected annual salary range for this role is $154000 - $225000 a year. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum (5) years of leadership experience in product engineering including people management experience.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of product engineering experience, working in either a manufacturing, industrial, or design engineering position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Familiar and experienced with Data Center Power Distribution Infrastructure
  • Active leadership in industry committees and standards organizations (IEEE, UL, NEMA, IEC, NFPA) in related technical areas.
  • Expertise in New Product Development and Engineer-to-Order systems.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical physics, power distribution, UL/IEC safety standards.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics, regulatory influences, and competitive landscape.
  • Experience of managing a group with both individuals and people managers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams to develop new products on-time, on-spec and on-budget with a view to reducing overall new product development (NPD) cycle time.
  • Oversee the Engineer-to-order (ETO) process and automation tools for all product lines in DCPD ensuring excellence in customer drawing approval packages and manufacturable high quality ETO designs.
  • Lead the transformation of the product line from Engineered‑to‑Order (ETO) to Configured‑to‑Order (CTO) by standardizing architectures, modularizing designs, and enabling rule‑based configuration—reducing engineering effort, shortening lead times, and improving scalability while maintaining product performance and quality.
  • Ensure new and existing product designs are of the highest quality with robust reliability through advanced modeling, simulation, and reliability testing.
  • Develop and implement unified engineering standards and practices across all teams to ensure consistency in design and manufacturing processes and serviceability. Oversee the Engineering Managers at different sites to align processes and share best practices, while maintaining a focus on the priorities of each site.
  • Manage R&D expenses and Capital spending for DCPD.
  • Interface with field Application Sales Engineers on highly technical product questions and issues.
  • Drive collaboration: facilitate effective communication between teams and stakeholders, collaborating with other departments and the Engineering Managers at different sites to ensure alignment with overall business goals.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, implementing best practices and new technologies to enhance engineering processes. Share continuous improvement initiatives with the other departments to drive overall organizational improvement.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations and safety standards, promoting a safe working environment across all sites. Coordinate safety practices and compliance efforts with other Engineering Managers, while ensuring your site meets all necessary requirements.
  • This position will be an engineering leader to participate in Eaton’s Global Product Line for DCPD, with the coordination of global product development and sharing of technology across regions.
  • Lead and institutionalize Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives across the product line to systematically reduce cost, improve margin, and enhance manufacturability—while protecting customer value, performance, safety, and quality.
  • Attract, develop and retain talent for both product development/design engineers and ETO engineers. Partner with HR for early campus recruiting, intern programs, CO-OP assignments and direct hires.
