About The Position

The Senior Field Engineer – Piping/Mechanical at Worley plays a critical role in providing construction site engineering resources and technical expertise during the construction phases of projects. This individual is responsible for interpreting piping and mechanical designs, making field-driven adjustments to meet site conditions, overseeing construction supervision, and providing final approval of completed work to ensure conformity with design specifications, codes, and industry standards. The Senior Field Engineer acts as a lead when appropriate, serving as a recognized technical specialist with deep expertise in piping and mechanical systems, including installation, testing, and commissioning. Consultation with engineering, construction management, and client representatives is a key aspect of this role.

Requirements

  • Advanced technical knowledge of piping systems, mechanical equipment installation, specifications, materials, supports, and stress considerations.
  • Strong ability to inform and persuade on complex technical matters through preparation and delivery of proposals, presentations, technical reports, and constructability reviews.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project management, engineering disciplines, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of construction systems, work processes, QA/QC procedures, and turnover documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot piping/mechanical issues in the field and guide teams toward practical, compliant solutions.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards governing piping and mechanical installations.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence outcomes and maintain alignment across teams.
  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent trade qualification in piping/mechanical discipline combined with additional relevant training and extensive field experience.
  • Degree-qualified candidates typically possess 7+ years of relevant piping/mechanical field engineering experience.
  • Trade-qualified candidates typically possess 12+ years of progressive field experience in piping/mechanical construction and supervision.
  • Proven experience in industrial projects (energy, chemicals, oil & gas, or resources sectors preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Make independent decisions and provide recommendations for large, complex projects and/or multiple smaller projects involving piping and mechanical scope.
  • Review and validate construction activities for technical accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes (e.g., ASME, API, ASTM).
  • Interpret and resolve field issues related to piping layouts, isometrics, supports, tie-ins, rotating/static equipment installation, and mechanical alignment.
  • Ensure proper execution of hydrotesting, flushing, pressure testing, torqueing, bolting, and mechanical completion activities.
  • Evaluate and respond to RFIs, field change requests, and non-conformance reports (NCRs), providing technically sound solutions.
  • Decisions may involve financial, safety, environmental, and organizational impacts within the company and externally with clients and subcontractors.
  • Work with self-initiated interaction with supervisors and provide proactive technical guidance to field teams.
  • Assign broad duties at the beginning of projects in terms of objectives, priorities, and critical interfaces that impact other disciplines (civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation).
  • Review work to ensure policy conformity, safety compliance, and sound engineering practices. Informed guidance is available when required.
  • Assign project work and provide technical oversight to staff engineers or field engineers supporting piping/mechanical scope.
  • May have direct reports and authority for performance evaluations impacting compensation and development.
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, ensuring mechanical systems are installed, tested, and handed over in accordance with project requirements.
