About The Position

A large public‑sector organization is seeking a Palo Alto Firewall Engineer to support its Network Team during a key transition period. This role will temporarily backfill the responsibilities of their primary Palo Alto SME who is approaching retirement. The engineer will ensure continuity across firewall operations, design, governance, monitoring, and security posture. This is a hands-on engineering role with primary focus on Palo Alto firewalls and secondary support across broader Cisco networking and enterprise security operations.

Requirements

3+ years of hands‑on experience with Palo Alto Firewalls
Strong experience monitoring network traffic, identifying anomalies, and mitigating threats
Background conducting vulnerability assessments and addressing security weaknesses
Proven ability to optimize network performance and troubleshoot complex issues
Excellent culture fit: warm, calm, communicative, and collaborative
Must obtain CJIS certification upon offer

Responsibilities

Network & Security Engineering: Design, implement, test, and maintain systems across a complex enterprise network. Work with Cisco routers, switches, Palo Alto firewalls, and broader security technologies. Monitor network traffic for threats and take proactive remediation steps. Conduct vulnerability assessments and security testing. Optimize and troubleshoot network performance to ensure uptime and reliability
Secure Remote Access: Manage and maintain VPNs and secure remote access solutions
Security Governance: Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and best practices
Cross‑Team Collaboration: Partner with IT and internal departments to ensure smooth deployment of security controls
Problem Management: Participate in Root Cause Analysis activities. Provide advanced support for security‑related incidents
Performance Measurement: Develop KPIs and track performance against critical security and network goals
Process Documentation: Document operational processes for future automation and playbook creation
