About The Position

This position is responsible for very complex foundations and soils analyses involved in the design of major structures; the review of analyses for projects prepared by consultants; the preparation of construction specifications and procedures; and the investigation, analysis, and resolution of complex soils and foundation related construction problems.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional statewide travel which may include overnight stays.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and/or reviews in-house prepared foundation and retaining wall plans as well as repair plans for failing foundations, walls, and slopes.
  • Prepares and reviews in-house Structure Geotechnical Reports (SGR).
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the SGR prepared by consultants.
  • Prepares and reviews very complex geotechnical designs for major structures.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates very complex geotechnical designs prepared by consultants.
  • Performs field investigations and analyses of very complex foundation problems for design or construction.
  • Monitors, reviews, or prepares feasibility studies of complex retaining wall systems.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of cofferdams and other soil retaining structures.
  • Prepares construction specifications and special provisions for geotechnical designs.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
