About The Position

As a Senior Hardware Development Engineer at Rockwell Automation, you'll play a key role in designing and advancing control hardware at the core of our industry‑leading motor drive products. In this role, you'll lead the development of complex electrical circuits and systems—spanning microcontrollers, memory devices, FPGA, analog and digital circuitry, while applying cutting‑edge simulation tools, robust design practices, and regulatory standards expertise. You'll drive innovation, guide project planning, and collaborate across teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance hardware that powers modern industrial automation. You will work a hybrid schedule at our office in Mequon, WI and will report to the Team Lead, Control Hardware Development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.

Nice To Haves

  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of UL and CE standards applicable to control hardware design for industrical products.
  • Experience with the use and application of circuit simulation tools such as LTSpice, PSpice, design and troubleshooting circuits and systems.
  • Experience with analyzing EMC susceptibility and emissions from power conversion products, agency standards for compliance and test methodologies.
  • Experience with selection and application of semiconductor devices, subsystems and circuit components – microcontrollers, FPGAs, memory devices, analog and digital circuits, switch-mode power supplies, transient protection, EMC compliance.
  • Proficiency with the use of instrumentation for control hardware measurements and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with printed circuit board design and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated application of Design for Six Sigma principles with Greenbelt certification or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Application of electrical circuit and systems design principles to lead the development of control HW for AC/DC motor drives – microcontrollers, memory devices, analog and digital circuit design
  • Application of simulation tools for modeling, design and troubleshooting of electrical circuits, systems and applications.
  • Demonstrate skills in PCBA design tools such as Mentor Graphics
  • Demonstrate excellent hardware troubleshooting skills and use of instrumentation for control hardware design
  • Must follow and ensure safe work practices when working with high voltage power hardware
  • Demonstrate excellent technical skills and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Lead project planning and assume responsibility for completion of tasks
  • Stay up-to-date with technology advancements in control hardware, components, and design and simulation tools.
  • Participate in technology investigation projects to make enhancements to future product design
  • Understand and apply regulatory and certification standards that govern product design.
  • Participate in regulatory standards committees and stay up-to-date on trends that impact product design and qualification
  • Apply DFSS principles for concept selection and robust design
  • Follow company and business policies and procedures, such as the Common Product Development process
  • Learn and use enterprise tools such as SAP and Windchill
