About The Position

This role offers the opportunity to lead and execute advanced industrial control systems projects within a high-tech automation environment. The Senior Industrial Controls Engineer will drive the design, programming, and implementation of PLC, HMI, and drive-based systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers. You will own technical solutions end-to-end, from requirement validation and system design to testing, troubleshooting, and deployment, ensuring high reliability and compliance with customer standards. This position involves frequent interaction with internal stakeholders and customers, both on-site and remotely, and includes leadership in process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate is highly autonomous, proactive, and experienced in complex automated system design and integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience designing and implementing industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and drives.
  • Advanced experience programming Rockwell PLCs (ControlLogix, GuardLogix) and developing HMIs (Ignition 8, FactoryTalk ME/SE).
  • Knowledge of AC/DC drive control architecture, industrial networks, and electrical/mechanical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience in automated systems engineering.
  • Leadership experience, including team organization, task prioritization, and mentorship.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 40% to customer locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with JIRA, Agile methodology, and knowledge of Rockwell and Inductive Automation products is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, programming, and implementation of industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and AC/DC drives.
  • Develop and execute test strategies, generate reports, and ensure compliance with technical requirements.
  • Troubleshoot complex automation systems, perform root cause analysis, and provide effective solutions.
  • Document system configurations, functionalities, and team processes for technical transparency and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers to gather requirements and validate technical solutions.
  • Coach, mentor, and supervise junior engineers, promoting best practices in industrial control engineering.
  • Support site implementations, release management, and process improvement initiatives across multiple locations.
