Your Team & Role Prudential is on a technology modernization journey, and APIs are at the heart of it. We are building a team to enable an API transformation across the enterprise. A new API gateway is being built, enhancements to our API portal strategy are underway, and the evangelization and education of developers for an API-centric/design first environment has begun. As a Senior Developer for the API COE team within the CTO, you will help drive the critical technology strategy for API Management at Prudential. Specifically, you will contribute hands-on to deliver on an API governance, standardization, and enterprise-usable API transformation program. You will partner with product owners, tech leads, and, most importantly, business application development teams to enable them on the Enterprise API platform. You will enable API best practices, engineer automated pipelines for building APIs while creating reusable, reliable, consistent, and scalable APIs for consumption across and outside of Prudential.

Requirements

  • Proven experience building enterprise‑grade APIs using modern languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, or Go, supported by DevOps and Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
  • Strong grounding in domain‑driven, specification‑first API design, including REST best practices, API standardization, and governance.
  • Broad API architecture knowledge across REST, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSockets, and AsyncAPI.
  • Hands‑on experience with API management platforms (e.g., Kong, Apigee, MuleSoft, Layer7).
  • Skilled with API design tools such as SwaggerHub and Stoplight.
  • Cloud and container orchestration expertise (EKS, ECS, or similar).
  • Deep understanding of API authentication and authorization patterns, especially OAuth2.
  • Solid grasp of observability practices (metrics, logging, tracing).
  • Proficiency in automated testing frameworks across unit, regression, contract, performance, and stress testing.
  • Experience supporting production operations and incident response for high‑volume global platforms.
  • Strong problem‑solving, communication, collaboration, and continuous‑learning mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with your Tech Leads to execute on technical delivery
  • Automate, and execute on API transformation inclusive of security, specification, and operability standards
  • Build and run DX-first applications that support the execution of our strategy, such as SDKs, CLIs, AI Agent skills.
  • Work with application development teams to enable the API transformation; provide coaching on API best practices, review use cases, and assist with the migration to the new API platform
  • Lead with an IaC and DevOps mindset, promoting frequent, small changes.
  • Identify opportunities for simplification in API tooling, development, and platform management processes.
