About The Position

The Senior Investigative Reporter supports the development of compelling narrative stories by identifying cases, gathering and verifying facts, conducting interviews, researching public records, preparing case briefs and pitch materials, and contributing written, audio, and video content. This role is designed for an experienced journalist with a minimum of five years of reporting experience and a proven track record of covering crime and court proceedings with sensitivity and rigor. Multimedia experience is strongly preferred, as this role contributes across written, audio, and video platforms. The Senior Investigative Reporter works as part of a collaborative team alongside show reporters, episode producers, booking producers, senior editors, and legal counsel to develop and deliver Audiochuck’s best-in-class storytelling ethically, accurately, and responsibly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of investigative reporting or journalism experience, including enterprise and breaking news
  • Strong interviewing skills with the ability to secure and protect sensitive sources
  • Deep understanding of legal considerations in investigative journalism and experience working with legal counsel
  • Demonstrated ability to uncover major stories with national or high-stakes significance
  • Advanced expertise in data journalism, FOIA requests, background research, and public records review
  • Leadership experience mentoring reporters and guiding investigative strategy
  • Exceptional writing and storytelling abilities, balancing objectivity with empathy
  • Proven ability to manage production timelines while maintaining accuracy and integrity

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess cases for coverage across Audiochuck’s audio and video programs and platforms
  • Review public records, submit FOIA requests, conduct data analysis, and perform in-depth interviews
  • Write compelling case briefs and present well-researched story pitches
  • Mentor and guide junior reporters, sharing investigative expertise and editorial strategy
  • Collaborate with legal teams to navigate sensitive issues, mitigate risk, and ensure journalistic integrity
  • Cover breaking news for social media and contribute across audio, visual, and written mediums
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Ensure compliance with ethical journalism standards and Audiochuck’s internal editorial guidelines
  • Contribute to advocacy initiatives connected to investigative storytelling
