Position Summary Reporting to the Director Total Rewards and People Operations, the Senior Manager, Benefits and Compensation is a hands on, highly organized Total Rewards leader responsible for leading the organization's benefits strategy, governance, and operational performance while overseeing the compensation function. This role directs all aspects of health, welfare, wellbeing, leave, and retirement plans, including plan design, compliance with ERISA and related regulations, fiduciary governance, vendor management, and day to day benefits operations. The position ensures programs are administered accurately, efficiently, and in a way that supports both organizational objectives and employee experience. In addition, the Senior Manager provides leadership to the compensation team responsible for salary structures, market pricing, job evaluation, and pay governance. The role collaborates with senior leadership to support the annual performance and pay cycle and contributes to executive compensation and sales compensation planning and governance. This position requires strong technical expertise in benefits and compensation, sound judgment, and the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders, and steward programs that are critical to organizational effectiveness. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, finance, business, or related field required
  • 7-9 years of progressive Total Rewards experience with deep benefits administration/compliance and solid compensation exposure (merit/bonus cycles, market pricing). Successful experience managing disability and wellness programs, return to work programs, leave of absence, and related programs, including interactions with Payroll required
  • 4-6 years of experience leading teams, working with senior level stakeholders and outside vendors. Successful development, implementation, communications, and realization of welfare benefits programs required
  • 4-6 years demonstrated experience with ERISA/ACA/HIPAA/COBRA requirements and retirement plan governance required
  • Strong written and verbal communicator able to translate complex topics into clear, employee friendly content required
  • Proven vendor management, project management, and cross functional partnering skills required
  • Deep knowledge of health and welfare plans, including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, and wellbeing programs required
  • Strong understanding of leave administration (FMLA, ADA, state/local programs) and related documentation requirements required
  • Expertise in benefit plan compliance including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, IRC regulations, and DOL/IRS reporting requirements required
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills; working knowledge conducting complex calculations and analysis to determine benefits costs and ROI. Strong business acumen to understand business implications of benefits cost models required
  • Ability to communicate with confidence in order to write, interpret and explain information related to benefits both one-on-one and in groups; effective presentation skills required
  • Track record of building and maintaining strong customer and cross-functional relationships while providing excellent customer service required

  • Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration platforms; strong Excel skills (data modeling, pivots, lookups) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Benefits Strategy, Governance & Leadership
  • Lead the strategy, design, and roadmap for all health & welfare, leave, wellbeing, and retirement programs to align with business goals and budget.
  • Serve as the senior benefits subject matter expert and advisor to HR leadership and the RBP/Benefits Committee, present recommendations, trends, and outcomes to senior leaders.
  • Champion change management for benefits initiatives, ensuring clarity of purpose, stakeholder alignment, and measurable outcomes.
  • Plan Design, Renewals & Vendor Management
  • Own annual benefits renewals (medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life/AD&D, disability, FSA/HSA, EAP, wellbeing, and leave programs), including RFPs, plan design modeling, funding strategies, and rate/fee negotiations.
  • Lead relationships with brokers, carriers, TPAs, and recordkeepers; define SLAs, monitor performance, and drive service recovery and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluate and implement wellbeing initiatives and decision support solutions to improve outcomes, experience, and affordability.
  • Retirement Plan Oversight (403(b)/401(k))
  • Oversee recordkeeper and advisor relationships, plan operations, and annual requirements (e.g., audit support, Form 5500, participant communications).
  • Partner on compliance testing (e.g., ADP/ACP, 410(b), 415, 402(g), 105(h) as applicable) and ensure timely remediation and filings.
  • Support committee governance, plan amendments, and participant education.
  • Benefits Operations
  • Direct day to day benefits administration, escalations, and complex case resolution to ensure a seamless employee experience.
  • Lead open enrollment end to end: strategy, configuration, testing, communications, events, resources, and post OE audit.
  • Own the operational management of the employee communication, ensuring accurate content, intuitive navigation, timely updates, and alignment with communications and branding.
  • HRIS/HCM, Payroll & Data Integrity (Dayforce emphasis)
  • Partner with HRIS to configure and optimize benefits modules in Dayforce (or current HCM), maintain eligibility rules, life event logic, rates, and evidence of insurability workflows.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll deductions, arrears handling, and reconciliation; oversee inbound/outbound vendor feeds (e.g., 834, 401k files) and defect resolution.
  • Establish data governance, testing protocols, and change control processes to protect data quality and PHI.
  • Employee Experience & Communications
  • Develop and deliver clear, inclusive benefits communications—SPDs/SMMs/SBCs, enrollment guides, toolkits, webinars, and manager enablement.
  • Implement decision support tools and concierge services that increase understanding and appropriate utilization.
  • Monitor employee feedback and service metrics to drive experience improvements.
  • Compliance, Risk & Audit
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA (1094/1095 C), COBRA, HIPAA, IRC §§125/105(h), Medicare Part D creditable coverage, state/federal leave, and all required notices.
  • Own filings and audits (e.g., Forms 5500, SARs), NDT/testing, and auditor workbooks; coordinate with Legal/Compliance on plan documents and amendments.
  • Maintain robust internal controls, protect PHI, and manage regulatory inquiries and corrective actions.
  • Financials, Analytics & Market Competitiveness
  • Build and manage benefits budget and accruals; conduct claims/utilization analytics, cost forecasts, trend analysis, and IBNR reviews.
  • Compensation
  • Lead and support the Compensation team to ensure current salary structures, ranges, market pricing, and pay governance.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership on annual merit, bonus, and incentive processes, ensuring alignment with budget, equity, and governance.
  • Contribute to pay equity assessments and continuous improvement actions.
  • Program Improvements & Transformation
  • Drive automation, self service, and process optimization across benefits, retirement, and portal operations.
  • Anticipate industry trends and market forces; pilot innovative solutions that enhance value, affordability, and employee well being.
  • Manage complex projects with clear plans, milestones, stakeholder updates, and post implementation reviews.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification
