Role summary Lead athenahealth’s global physical security and executive protection programs to protect people, facilities, and operations across our worldwide footprint. This role is based in Boston, MA and blends strategic program leadership with hands-on oversight of 24/7 security operations. The Senior Manager, Global Security, will report to the Workplace Experience Director and is expected to support global operations, including occasional travel and availability outside standard business hours when required. Team summary The Workplace Experience team designs, delivers, and manages the physical and service environment that enables employees to do their best work. The team’s focus spans facilities operations, space strategy, employee-facing services, and the policies and programs that create a safe, productive, and welcoming workplace—whether employees are onsite, remote, or hybrid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, International Relations, or a related field (required).
  • 8–10 years of progressive experience in corporate security, GSOC operations, executive protection, and global security management (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing security teams (required).
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing executive protection programs for high-profile or high-risk personnel.
  • Extensive crisis management and incident response experience.
  • Experience managing vendor-delivered security operations and contractual relationships.
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and executive report-writing skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel on short notice and to operate outside standard business hours as needed.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain global physical security, executive protection, GSOC, and travel security strategies and programs.
  • Manage day-to-day GSOC operations and ensure effective 24/7 monitoring, escalation, and incident handling.
  • Lead executive protection planning and execution for high-profile or high-risk personnel, including advance planning and on-site security as needed.
  • Oversee crisis management and incident response efforts, including activation of incident command, coordination with stakeholders, and post-incident reporting.
  • Manage and evaluate vendor-delivered security operations, setting performance metrics and ensuring contractual compliance.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop security team leaders and staff, ensuring clear roles, training, and readiness.
  • Produce executive-level investigative and incident reports, risk assessments, and recommendations for leadership.
  • Coordinate security-related training and awareness initiatives for employees and leadership.
  • Support cross-functional projects involving office openings, relocations, or major events with security input and planning.
  • Conduct periodic security risk assessments of facilities, travel itineraries, and business activities.
  • Apply AI-driven and data analysis tools to draft communications, synthesize incident and operational data, generate investigative findings and executive recommendations — ensuring accuracy, compliance, and appropriate review.
  • Maintain and refine security policies, playbooks, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in tabletop exercises and preparedness drills with internal and external partners.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for security-related vendor selection and procurement processes.
  • Represent athenahealth in relevant external security forums and professional networks as appropriate.
