About The Position

Jupiter seeks to hire an experienced professional as Senior Manager of Market Analytics to implement best-in-class research and modeling approaches to support evaluation of novel commercial opportunities and investment decisions for Jupiter’s energy storage portfolio. This person’s work will entail a combination of internal model development leveraging in-house Analytics, Regulatory Affairs, Trading, Data Science, and additional resources along with engagement of external advisory support. The position will report to the Vice President, Market Analytics and will be based out of Austin, Texas. This role will be based out of our Austin, TX office and is subject to our Company’s return-to-office policy which currently requires a minimum of three days a week in the office. Secondary responsibilities may be tailored to individual candidate backgrounds as well as company priorities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or other quantitative discipline plus 4+ years of experience with market analysis in the electric power industry.
  • Advanced understanding of electricity market concepts and design, including nodal pricing/congestion principles.
  • Understanding of energy storage technology and how to incorporate its technical parameters into economic models.
  • Experience executing and interpreting results from industry-standard simulation tools used to evaluate power systems and economic dispatch, including production cost and capacity expansion models.
  • Proven ability to extract commercial ideas from large datasets and complex problem-sets through rigorous quantitative analysis.
  • Experience formulating and interpreting results from stochastic simulations, with a strong foundational understanding of statistical concepts and methods.
  • Experience with modeling production and revenue outcomes for different types of generation portfolios, including renewable, thermal and/or energy storage assets.
  • Ability to communicate quantitative and complex market information in a clear, concise manner to internal colleagues and external project partners.
  • High comfort level with small teams & organizations, with initiative and enthusiasm to formulate new ideas in collaboration with co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform commercial analysis and manage third-party engagements responsive to bilateral contracting opportunities, requests for proposals, and/or market design and policy initiatives affecting energy storage. As part of this, advise modeling approaches, data sources, and consultant selection suitable for novel opportunity assessment.
  • Design and execute models to evaluate the use and benefit of energy storage in co-optimizing emissions or other non-price attributes with economic outcomes, including models combining storage with other forms of generation and industrial loads.
  • Contribute to Market Analytics initiatives to build energy storage project revenue models, providing research support and analytical assessments regarding market drivers, dispatch outcomes, commercial risks, and technical and/or market design constraints, including for new markets.
  • Support specifications development, user testing, and validation of Jupiter proprietary applications enabling routine opportunity assessment of energy storage market operations, commercial structures, and market design principles.
  • Coordinate effectively with Finance, Origination, Development, and Trading colleagues to ensure fidelity of revenue inputs and scenarios incorporated into investment cases.
  • Prepare reports tailored for a variety of purposes and audiences to communicate research findings and modeling methodologies, assumptions, and results.
