Come join our journey, and experience what it means to be Done Right with Rhoads . We are currently looking for a Senior Manager of Safety to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The Senior Manager of Safety will be responsible for directing and providing environmental, occupational health, and safety (EHS) program oversight the company. The position oversees development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, audits functions for EHS procedure implementation, ensures compliance with corporate, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of War, (DoW/DoD), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), and client safety requirements, and conducting root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. The Senior Manager of Safety monitors and documents the effectiveness of safety control measures and directs Rhoads leadership, staff, and subcontractors in the implementation of Rhoads’ EHS program. The position will manage the development of site-specific EHS plans, procedures, and reporting requirements for Rhoads’ locations as well as customer projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health and safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10-year safety-related experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills; detail oriented and efficient.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent supervisory, personnel management, and leadership skills.
  • Extensive Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) experience.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work and function effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities in a rapidly growing organization.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop, execute, and evaluate training.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • OSHA 30 certification within the last five (5) years.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certificate and current annual 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher
  • Knowledge of USN, USACE, and USCG safety procedures.
  • Current shipyard competent person training or ability to obtain and maintain CP status.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain and maintain.

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy manufacturing, marine and water-based operations and DoW/DoD safety background are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and provide EHS strategic direction for use by corporate and department leadership, and project managers.
  • Serve as the EHS subject matter expert for clients, regulators, and Rhoads staff.
  • Serve as the primary contact on EHS issues, questions, and incidents.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with Rhoads’ customers, regulators, and subcontractors.
  • Assist in the preparation of new work proposals and solicitations with EHS requirements.
  • Review all contract documents related to ongoing or proposed EHS work.
  • Write and review site specific safety plans (SSSPs), Job and Activity Hazard Analyses (JHA/AHA), policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs; ensure that subcontractor programs are compliant with corporate, client, OSHA, DoW/DoD, or USCG safety regulations.
  • Meet with Rhoads field personnel, such as pre-award and pre-construction conferences.
  • Assess, update/develop, and implement safety regulations related to Rhoads’ operations.
  • Effectively manage EHS personnel, resources, training, budgets, and reporting.
  • Manage and lead the EHS staff to include planning for and hiring of new EHS personnel.
  • Assess, update/develop, implement, and maintain safety and emergency training records and certifications.
  • Identify opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Serve as the Incident Commander when needed, ensuring that incidents, accidents, and injuries are properly managed.
  • Conduct safety audits/inspections to include corrective actions which promote the health and safety of workers and the public.
  • Serve as the Chairperson of the Safety Committee.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
