As a Senior Manager, Technical Designer – Special Sizes, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of retail by ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and value. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Technical Design Manager to lead the fit and technical development of our Special Sizes apparel from concept through production. This role is critical in ensuring that every garment meets Walmart’s fit standards, performance expectations, and delivers an exceptional customer experience for Special Sizes products. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with deep expertise in fit, pattern making, leading technical designers, and product lifecycle management for Special Sizes apparel.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Textiles , Design, or related field and 4 years’ experience in technical design, product development, or related area OR 6 years’ experience in technical design, product development, or related area.
  • 1 year’s supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 5-8 years of experience in technical design roles, preferably focused on Special Sizes apparel categories (e.g., plus, petite, tall, etc.).
  • Advanced understanding of PLM, 3D, CAD, Miro Board, and related tools within the product development ecosystem.
  • Strong operational mindset with ability to translate product fit and quality and customer metrics into actionable steps.
  • Deep fit, fabric, and pattern expertise for Special Sizes apparel.
  • Denim fabric and wash experience preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams in matters related to fit and product construction for Special Sizes.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and coach junior technical designers.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Apparel Manufacturing, Master's degree in Business, Textiles , Design, or related field., Working on cross-functional teams, Working with product development software

Responsibilities

  • Fit Leadership: Lead and conduct live fit sessions using Special Sizes fit models, pattern expertise, and fit forms to evaluate samples for fit, performance, and functionality. Ensure alignment with design intent and customer performance expectations for Special Sizes.
  • 2D & 3D Pattern Expertise: Utilize 2D & 3D pattern tools to validate initial patterns, blocks, and grading during product development through production. Establish and maintain Special Sizes grade rule tables and block libraries to streamline the fit process across Special Sizes product categories.
  • Customer-Centric Product Integrity: Drive a data-led approach focused on Special Sizes customer insights, returns-based learning loops, and implementing learnings to elevate fit to meet and exceed customer expectations.
  • Fit Quality & Technical Direction: Follow rigorous quality assurance gates through development, production, and post-purchase stages. Lead and conduct internal and external wear tests for Special Sizes products to seek wearer feedback and implement corrective actions as needed. Provide detailed technical direction on fit and construction to vendor partners to meet design and fit intent for Special Sizes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Design, Product Development, and Sourcing teams and vendors to define and execute appropriate fit and functional intent for each Special Sizes product.
  • Technical Package Ownership: Strong PLM knowledge to manage end-to-end fit cycle. Create and maintain detailed technical packages for Special Sizes products in PLM, including specs, grading, construction details, and fit evaluation comments.
