About The Position

As a Senior Components Manufacturing Engineer at Impulse, you will assist with build & fabrication of components for propulsion and vehicle control systems. Work alongside propulsion component designers to take hardware from initial drawings, to fabricated assemblies, to fully integrated onto our vehicles. Impulse Space is seeking hands-on engineers who want to work in a rapidly iterative production environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or physics
  • 5+ years of experience manufacturing, building, testing, or troubleshooting hardware via professional work experience and/or project/research-based student experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Design for Manufacturability and complex assemblies
  • Demonstrated results with product or process improvements
  • Hands-on experience with basic fabrication tools and processes (electric/pneumatic power tools, tube bending, machining, welding, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability of taking project ownership and working well in small teams
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years' of manufacturing experience working directly with components or sub-assemblies in an aerospace environment
  • Demonstrated experience developing production processes from the ground up including driving design improvements for manufacturing
  • Self-starter able to identify problems and implement solutions with limited supervision
  • Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and data review
  • Hands-on experience trouble-shooting, building and testing hardware
  • Extremely hands on. Experience with fabrication tools and processes (electric/pneumatic power tools, manual lathes/mills, calipers, welding equipment, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CAD software (NX or equivalent), geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and work holding design and analysis
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced agile product development environment
  • Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed
  • Python / SQL programming experience or similar
  • High attention to detail and rapid pace of execution

Responsibilities

  • Own the build, assembly and testing of propulsion and vehicle control system components
  • Create assembly and test work instructions, as well as design fixtures and tooling to enable rate production
  • Design, manufacture and maintain automated high pressure test equipment
  • Lead creative changes to production process and hardware
  • Collaborate and work closely with design engineers, build and test technicians, internal machine shops and external vendors to make parts that are designed for manufacturability
  • Resolve and analyze manufacturing and test discrepancies, while interfacing with the quality team (resolving issues for design, fabrication, and assembly)
  • Support component testing such as proof and leak, fluid flow and functional checkouts, etc.
