About The Position

Zappos is seeking a self-motivated Senior Merchandise Planner to lead multiple business units to success through data-driven inputs. You will partner with buyers to guide assortment plans and develop category and brand strategies. In this role, you will play a critical part in maximizing sales, profitability, and inventory efficiency by developing detailed assortment plans and forecasts. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Buying, Marketing, FBA and Finance and you’ll ensure the right products are available at the right time, aligning with customer needs and business objectives. The successful candidate is a results-oriented and hands-on leader with a deep understanding of e-commerce dynamics, a passion for analyzing trends, and a proven ability to move beyond applying standard templates for solving problems. You will own and develop our product optimization strategy and inventory management with creative, innovative ideas that are translated into actionable insights for the business. You will own and present business insights to senior leadership and will develop tools and analysis that will drive growth and positively impact the broader Zappos organization. Requirements

  • 5+ years of with Excel experience
  • Bachelor's degree, or 5+ years of professional or military experience
  • Experience working with complex data sets
  • Experience communicating results to senior leadership
  • Experience influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience doing one of several roles: quantitative/financial analysis, retail buying, retail planning & allocation, product/project management, pricing, marketing or e-commerce
  • Experience leading process improvement, systems development, and project management
  • Experience in building and developing a high performance cross functional project team
  • Knowledge of P&L
  • Usage of generative AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency, with a willingness to learn effective prompting and evaluation practices
  • Ability to recognize opportunities where generative AI could enhance products, workflows, or customer experiences

Responsibilities

  • Develop seasonal and annual plans by category and vendor for multiple business units.
  • Build financial plans in accordance with buying strategies to maximize profitability.
  • Drive strategic decision making to achieve sales and inventory goals.
  • Own inventory health, open-to-buy, item-level forecasting, and assortment planning.
  • Optimize sales and inventory productivity through analysis and plans that drive high impact decision making.
  • Forecast financials and related operational metrics.
  • Develop new and enhance existing reporting, driving a high standard for analytical excellence.
  • Present analysis to senior leaders and suggest strategic shifts and actions based on findings
  • Create projects that improve the efficiency of buying/planning systems, processes and procedures.
  • Partake in A/B testing of new tools and maintain owner mindset to deliver constructive feedback
  • Train and develop planning team members.
