As a Mortgage Underwriter at Banner Bank, you play a vital role in helping individuals and families achieve homeownership while protecting the bank’s commitment to responsible lending. This role blends deep underwriting expertise with collaboration, problem-solving, and regulatory care. You’ll be trusted to make sound credit decisions that support both our customers and our long-term success.

Requirements

  • You have a High School Diploma or G.E.D. (Required). An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • You bring six or more years of mortgage underwriting experience (Required).

Nice To Haves

  • You have advanced knowledge of 1–4 family residential underwriting guidelines across multiple loan programs.
  • You are comfortable underwriting a wide range of loan types and navigating investor and agency requirements.
  • You communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and verbally, and enjoy supporting partners across the loan production team.
  • You stay organized, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel and have a solid understanding of accounting principles.
  • You maintain a strong working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to residential underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Apply underwriting standards adopted by the Board of Directors, investors, agencies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Underwrite residential loan applications to ensure compliance with Banner Bank portfolio guidelines, secondary marketing conduits, and private mortgage insurance companies.
  • Partner closely with loan officers and processors to support the origination and structuring of residential loans.
  • Provide guidance on complex or challenging loan scenarios to help teams move applications forward.
  • Ensure full compliance with internal policies, procedures, security standards, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of changing regulatory, investor, and agency requirements that impact underwriting decisions.
