About The Position

The Senior Nursing Informatics Specialist is a key leader in Nursing and Epic Operations, ensuring clinical information systems align with DFCI nursing standards and strategic goals, with emphasis on Ambulatory Pediatrics. Reporting to the Associate Director of Nursing Informatics, this role advances the professional practice model and shared governance through informatics-enabled practice change. The specialist leads stabilization, optimization, and continuous improvement of Epic and related systems, collaborating with nursing, physician, pharmacy, Epic leadership, analysts, and trainers on clinical content design, workflow standardization, training, and communication. They identify issues, develop mitigation strategies, and make data-driven recommendations, serving as the primary nursing informatics liaison between the Epic program and clinical stakeholders. In support of institutional quality and safety priorities, the specialist leads initiatives that evaluate interventions, drive practice changes, and leverage data and technology to improve patient outcomes, safety, efficiency, and clinician experience. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing and/or Health Informatics required.
  • 7+ years of Registered Nurse experience in healthcare required. Ambulatory or inpatient oncology experience preferred.
  • End user Epic experience required.
  • Current or previous nursing informatics role required.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level nursing informatics leadership to Epic governance, guiding workflow design, clinical content, build priorities, and future development to align with nursing practice, regulations, and operational goals.
  • Lead structured collaboration with Epic leadership, analysts, and nursing stakeholders to analyze workflows, gather requirements, for safe, efficient, standardized Epic solutions.
  • Represent nursing on specialized and cross-functional workgroups and committees, advocating for nursing interests and recommending improvements in usability, safety, and quality.
  • Direct investigation, testing, and validation of system and workflow issues; evaluate impacts and effectiveness of changes using data and feedback, escalating complex risks as needed.
  • Provide expert input on clinical, regulatory, and operational documentation, partner with analysts and reporting teams on metrics, report development, and data interpretation for improvement initiatives.
  • Lead or guide development of end-user education and communication materials and present Epic-related updates and recommendations at nursing and stakeholder forums.
  • Influence technology and clinical documentation policy, support pediatric integration into nursing informatics structures and shared governance, and stay current on Epic and informatics best practices through external engagement.
