About The Position

The Engineering Support Unit at BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems (SMS), Inc. is looking to expand our team with a talented and energetic ground system engineer in support of operation of space vehicles and ground systems for commercial, DoW, and NASA customers. This position consists of working on a tightly integrated team in a fast-paced Agile environment to deliver continuous innovation to our customers. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Our collaborative, cross-functional teams are committed to innovation, integrity, continual learning and strong execution.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • A current, active Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI.
  • Experience required with one or more of these skills: VMWare vSphere.
  • Teradici VDI.
  • Ansible.
  • Alternative Requirement: Two or more of these skills: Linux administration (prefer RedHat).
  • Kubernetes (prefer OpenShift).
  • Elastic stack.
  • Amazon Web Services.
  • Networking.
  • Terraform.
  • Proven leadership experience at the technical, team, or organizational levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in the following technologies:​​​ OIDC/Keycloak.
  • Cybersecurity.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines (prefer Gitlab CI).
  • Experience with space ground control systems.
  • Agile software development methodologies.
  • Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence).

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and maintain critical applications on cloud-native microservices architecture.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and system monitoring solutions.
  • Create and maintain Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Support the efforts of cross-functional development teams developing advanced systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
