The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of some of the most innovative land-based and shipboard radars in the world. This includes phased array radar systems, hardware integration, and electronic modules, pedestal and power and cooling systems. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support. Mechanical Engineering is searching for an experienced Senior Principal Design Engineer to work in the Radar Design Department. Focused on support to cooling and hydraulic systems across radar programs and sites used in a variety of harsh environmental military applications. Phases will cross development through integration and upgrades. Focus on providing developmental, test and evaluation design solutions with potential commercial options as well as ruggedized custom cooling designs, field installation, test bed support, customer interactions and training. Must be able to lead program teams for development and testing portfolio with and frequently travel between the Northeast Facilities as well and domestic and international travel to our customer and depot sites. This position is located on-site in Marlborough or Tewksbury, MA.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 12 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced STEM degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience utilizing and/or creating military cooling design specifications and trouble shooting.
  • Interact with program counterparts as an authority on field testing, repair and training
  • Review deliverables for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Frequent technical contact with the customer and senior personnel including requirements, significant technical commitments, commercial options, future technical needs, etc.
  • Cognizant of suppliers’ capabilities or have direct experience field experience
  • Work with minimal direction or supervision, while exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment.
  • Onsite and frequent travel to customer sites will be required to lead collaboration, and hardware build, upgrade, repair, test and training
  • Experience with CREO(Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software and PDM
  • Strong technical background with high technical aptitude
  • Very strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with team members and customers
  • Broad knowledge of RTX or defense industry projects, programs or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for developing sound technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle, in particular to achieve test events in a DoD environment
  • Lead the mechanical development of cooling and hydraulic test systems and components that achieve the performance requirements at the system-level from proposal development through testing of one-of-a-kind units and assess commonalty across the portfolio
  • Ownership over these items across multiple contracts and spanning multiple years, including efforts critical to support future growth.
  • Work with our programs and internal and external customers to establish cooling systems requirements and best value and best practice design options based on cost and schedule and appropriate technical data package requirements
  • Ensures balance with risk conditions and constraints while advising leadership.
  • This role requires a balance of skills including attention to detail, root cause analysis, customer service, and relationship building.
  • Candidate’s ability to quickly adapt through use of technical expertise, leadership, communication skills, and responsiveness are paramount.
  • Engage in personal technical growth and facilitate technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
  • Help to understand what opportunities are needed to mature the organization on the technical front.
