About The Position

The Senior Principal Engineer (SPE) – Generator & Electrical Systems is the deep system-level technical expertise across generator and electrical systems supporting GE Vernova Gas Power plants, Steam and aero-derivative fleets. This role delivers end-to-end system perspective—mechanical flange‑to‑flange and electrical system interactions—to resolve the complex safety, reliability, and operational challenges across the installed fleet. The SPE ensures technical rigor, consistency, and quality of technical recommendations and communications provided to customers and internal stakeholders. Operating beyond individual projects, this role proactively identifies emerging fleet and sub‑fleet risks, strengthens technical governance, and partners closely with the Chief Engineer’s Office to protect safety, reduce risk, and sustain customer trust. One of the main objectives for this role will be to shift from reactive to proactive by identifying risks from avalibel fleet data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in generator and electrical systems engineering for power generation.
  • Proven leadership in complex RCAs, fleet issues, and safety-critical investigations.
  • Strong technical in-depth knowledge of Generator mechanical flange-to-flange and Electrical Systems.
  • Experience operating effectively in a global, multi-function organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including executive and customer-facing engagements.
  • Proven ability to develop and mentor others.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Responsibilities

  • Address cross‑product, cross‑functional, and systemic issues that extend beyond individual components or projects.
  • Govern and evolve the technical framework (standards application, decision criteria, and lean improvements).
  • Deliver a system-level technical view across mechanical and electrical boundaries for complex RCAs, safety events, and top fleet issues impacting generators and electrical systems.
  • Promote and model a strong culture of safety, quality, and One Team collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, field service, and suppliers.
  • Bring deep technical expertise to resolve safety‑critical, complex, and systemic fleet issues, including support for Aero Derivative fleets, using a One Team approach across functions.
  • Own the technical quality, consistency, and approval of customer-facing and internal engineering communications, publications, and technical guidance.
  • Support technical decision‑making during safety concerns, outages, emergent field issues, and high-stakes customer meetings.
  • Provide expert technical leadership to cross‑functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, field service, suppliers) to resolve product, manufacturing, and field issues.
  • Support the Chief Engineer’s Office in execution of technical governance, enterprise risk management, and compliance activities.
  • Strengthen organizational technical capability by addressing critical knowledge gaps and improving Technical Depth Assessment (TDA) maturity.
  • Act as a technical delegate and escalation path aligning with continuous product service support demands.
  • Mentor and coach Principal Engineers and the broader engineering community to ensure consistent application of engineering standards, RCA rigor, and technical development.
  • Own and maintain knowledge management systems, including historical issue data, lessons learned, and fleet knowledge.
  • Provide executive-level technical summaries enabling data‑driven prioritization and targeted deep-dive investigations.
