About The Position

As a Senior Project Engineer within Viasat’s Government Space and Emerging Technologies group, you will lead the technical execution of an advanced communication and sensing system program from early development through deployment. You’ll be at the center of engineering integration and program execution, and responsibilities will include: Translating mission needs and high‑level requirements into actionable engineering plans, ensuring alignment across mission, systems, hardware, firmware, software, and integration teams Coordinating system‑level design activities, supporting CONOP development, system calibration design, waveform design, and performance analysis performed by technical specialists Drive cross‑functional collaboration, ensuring consistent technical baselines, verification approaches, and integration readiness across engineering disciplines Supporting proposals, planning, milestone preparation, and technical communication with internal stakeholders and government customers Managing technical scope, schedule, and risks to ensure delivery of mission‑aligned system capabilities Guiding firmware, hardware, software, and integration and test teams through implementation and integration phases Leading system bring‑up, troubleshooting issues during hardware/software integration, and ensuring traceability back to requirements Coordinating with requirements, analysis, and modeling teams to maintain alignment throughout the lifecycle Preparing and delivering technical briefs, design reviews, and engineering documentation

Requirements

  • 10+ years' experience in system-level engineering, integration or technical project leadership for complex communications, RF or sensing systems
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering fundamentals: requirements flow‑down, trade studies, verification/validation, and system architecture
  • Familiarity with algorithmic or waveform development concepts (you coordinate and understand, but don't need to be the primary developer).
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse engineering domains and drive alignment in dynamic environments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including experience preparing briefings or leading technical discussions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related technical field
  • US Government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance (with SCI Eligibility) or have held one in the last two (2) years
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating hardware, firmware, and software on platforms such as processors, FPGAs, embedded systems, or networking interfaces
  • Background with modeling/simulation tools and performance analysis workflows
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams and coordinating multi‑discipline engineering activities
  • Exposure to secure communication systems, RF design, or satellite/space system architectures
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related technical field
