About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Payer Finance and Strategy, the Senior Project Manager, Payer Contracting plays a key role in leading and overseeing projects and programs related to the goals of the Payer Contracting and Performance department. The Payer Contracting and Performance Department is responsible for negotiating multi-million-dollar agreements on behalf of DFCI with all health insurance payors. This position combines administrative and strategic responsibilities, and the individual must be capable of pivoting between different projects successfully to advance work in the department.

The Senior Project Manager creates and maintains project structure and develops material to drive large-scale organizational change. They will work on multiple highly complex projects simultaneously, including: payer network integration given DFCI’s clinical affiliations with Brigham & Women’s and Beth Israel Lahey Health; planning for new hospital service lines and inpatient considerations; supporting payer negotiations, and service-line strategic initiatives (e.g. contracting for cellular therapies, new pharmaceutical products, etc). In addition, the position will be responsible for the ongoing review of payer policies and market trends, and all other duties in support of the Director of Payer Finance & Strategy and the Vice President of Payer Contracting & Performance.

The Senior Project Manager, Payer Contracting must be capable of independently managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines and thrive collaborating with team members and others at varying levels of the organization. The position will require researching and presenting internally on a variety of topics including, but not limited to, payer contract negotiations, plan policies and guidelines, and other critical matters as needed to support the goals of the department and the organization.

Requirements

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft business applications, i.e., PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to deliver presentations to a wide variety of audiences – up to and including executive level and C-Suite executives
• Ability to work effectively while managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Adept at collaborating with team members and leadership to drive successful contracting outcomes.
• Capability to work independently and meet deadlines with general supervision.
• Ability to work in a matrixed environment and cross collaborate with others at varying reporting levels within and external to the organization.
• Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of experience required; experience in healthcare contracting and/or consulting experience strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to independently draft presentation materials and proposals for broad audiences.
• Knowledge of clinical delivery systems, third party reimbursement, commercial payment methodologies and acute interest in evolving health reform preferred.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, exceptional organizational skills and superior attention to detail.
• Ability to cooperate and collaborate with multiple, cross-functional teams through superior interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Responsibilities

• Project Oversight: Oversee complex, high-impact projects on behalf of the department that are critical to the Institute's strategic objectives. Work with multiple departments and external partners on a rapidly-changing and ever-expanding list of priorities with the goals of ensuring access, promoting novel and personalized treatments, and streamlining inefficiencies, all while encouraging financial sustainability. Lead contact for consultant support and multi-year strategic and financial planning.
• New Hospital & Clinical Affiliation Planning: Create, manage, and carry out detailed project plans to support considerable short and long-term change at Dana-Farber, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and long-term goals. Key projects include: Disease Center transition planning; documenting and supporting workflows for Dana-Farber’s clinical affiliates (including Boston Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel Lahey Health, & Brigham & Women’s Hospital; strategic financial and operational design for the new Dana-Farber inpatient hospital; and directing service-line initiatives to ensure accurate reporting, financial viability, and other tactical considerations. .
• Contract Negotiation: Collaborate closely with Director of Payer Finance and Strategy to develop all materials related to negotiations with major payers including proposals and PowerPoint presentations for negotiation meetings. Maintaining negotiation timelines, ensure all deliverables are met, communicate negotiation outcomes to relevant stakeholders, maintain detailed records of correspondence, and develop documentation for negotiations. At the request of the Director of Payer Finance & Strategy, participate directly in negotiations.
• Monitor Market Trends: Create and manage process to monitor and review payer policy and procedure changes. Research and document the evolving payer landscape in order to retain revenue and mitigate financial risk. Coordinate prompt financial impact analysis of upcoming changes and communicate results to Contracting Operations team. Ensure policy objection timelines are met where appropriate.
• Stakeholder Interaction and Communication: Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leadership, to drive project success and foster collaboration across the organization. Responsible for the organization of meeting materials, taking detailed notes, and managing follow-up actions.
