The 9 Medical-Surgical Unit is a new 40-bed semi-private unit on the 9th floor WISH Tower at Parkland Health. The unit cares for adult patients with a variety of acute medical conditions within the Medicine Service line. As a brand-new unit, 9 Gold offers staff the opportunity to help build the culture, and workflows from the ground up while working in a collaborative environment focused on patient safety, teamwork, and high-reliability care. The unit will operate with typical medical-surgical staffing ratios of approximately 4–5 patients per RN with PCA support, consistent with Parkland’s team-based care model. Parkland is offering an $8,000 hiring incentive for eligible Registered Nurses. To qualify, applicants must: Not be a current Parkland employee Not have worked at Parkland within the past 12 months Shift: Full-Time Nights (7P-7A) Primary Purpose The RN is a licensed professional who uses the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition and the competencies of the employee.
