The Senior Research Nurse, RN provides family centered care, understands, and integrates appropriate growth and development processes into care delivery of patients with acute and chronic diseases, and other disorders with a central focus on safeguarding of research participants. This position also supports study implementation in various settings, study coordination, data management and integrity, and compliance and reporting of regulatory requirements. This position coordinates clinical research activities in accordance to established guidelines. Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, Master’s preferred.
  • RN licensure in the state of Illinois, active and in good standing.
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience to include 3 years of research experience; previous pediatric experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic Life Support Certification through AHA required.
  • GCP and CITI training required, can be completed after hire.
  • Association of Clinical Research Professional (ACRO) Certification and/or Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) Certification required or secured within 12 months of hire.
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership skills, ability to work with a team; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent organizational skills; entry level understanding of budgeting, monitoring/analyzing variance from budget (when applicable); and hospital information systems.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees quality control protocols to ensure the safety of the research participants.
  • Ensures data integrity of the database.
  • Develops and leads corrective plans to manage ethical and financial conflicts of interest and/or issues related to research.
  • Leads development of specialized education and oversight concerning research studies and the conduct of research and coordinates new study start-up.
  • Acts as protocol resource for other research team members. Orients research team members to studies.
  • Collaborates regularly with PI and/or Co-I for studies relative to progress of projects, roadblocks, and serves as resource to new investigators.
  • Serves as a consultant on research best practices to other healthcare providers.
  • As an expert, supervises execution of all clinical research activities including study implementation through study completion.
  • Supervise clinical research activities in accordance to established regulatory and institutional guidelines, FDA and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines.
  • Oversees, organizes, and contributes to the operations of multiple research study activities such as recruiting and enrolling participants, delivering informed consents, collecting, documenting, and entering data for report purposes.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Contribute to identification of clinical and/or operational performance improvement opportunities and initiatives.
  • Establish partnerships with external agencies for site visit reviews.
  • Directs site monitoring visits by the sponsoring agencies and ensures that all records are accurate and available for review.
  • Develops case report forms for data collection as requested.
  • Contributes to the development and submission of grant/s.
  • Mentors, trains, and advise nurses, clinical research staff, and other interdisciplinary research professionals.
  • Identifies future research or nursing practice questions because of research oversight.
  • Disseminates research findings (internally or externally).
  • Collaborates and participates in data analysis.
  • Identifies self-learning needs and creates professional development opportunities to ensure professional goals.
