About The Position

In this role, you will own projects involving active analog superconducting circuits operating up to 20 GHz, including mixers, switches, and parametric converters for qubit readout and control. You will take projects from concept, through design and test iterations, to successful demos and eventual integration. You will be an expert in superconducting devices (e.g., superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs), nanowires), microwave engineering, and multi-parametric processes. You will be comfortable with basic qubit bringup, control, and metrology. The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or related fields or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in operating, calibrating, or benchmarking quantum systems, superconducting detectors, or related technologies.
  • 2 years of experience in working on an academic, government, or industry lab environment.
  • Experience with a programming language (Python, C, MATLAB, or similar) and data analysis.
  • Experience with microwave engineering, circuit design, electromagnetic (EM) simulation, and test-and-measurement equipment and practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with superconducting devices such as JRM, SNAIL, LINC, ATS, nTrons, etc.
  • Experience working in a lab setting.
  • Experience with microwave passives such as filters, multiplexers, impedance matching and coupling structures, including circuit and EM simulation with an ability to innovate in this area.
  • Experience leading research projects as an individual contributor.
  • Ability to debug hardware and software issues, in the context of microwave control and measurement of superconductor or semiconductor quantum systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own project full lifecycle from innovation to integration
  • Design, simulate, layout, and test superconducting 3- and 4-wave mixing devices.
  • Experiment design and measurement in the context of qubit readout and control.
  • Collaborate with processor design, device modeling, theory, fabrication, and metrology teams.
