In this role, you’ll provide care and support for up to 4 children and young people in our residential care home, creating a safe and nurturing environment where they can thrive. Working a roster of 7 days on and 7 days off, you’ll support their wellbeing, development and daily needs through supervision, activities and positive engagement. You will be supported by a House Manager and a team of Residential Support Workers, ensuring the home runs smoothly and meets the needs of the children and young people. You’ll use your trauma-informed, child-focused approach to provide practical care and emotional support, ensuring children and young people feel safe, respected and supported. Requirements

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree level qualification in Social and Community Services or significant relevant experience in residential or therapeutic care
  • Demonstrated experience providing residential and therapeutic care for children and young people with complex behaviours and trauma, ideally as a live-in carer
  • Proven ability to build professional nurturing relationships with children and young people
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, understanding their cultural needs and traditions
  • Demonstrated knowledge of complex trauma and its effects on children and young people and how it impacts their behaviour
  • Strong peer support, teamwork, problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Current Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) and CPR (HLTAID009) certificates
  • A current and unrestricted driver’s licence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Children and Residential Experiences (CARE) will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 24/7 therapeutic care and supervision for up to four children and young people, creating a safe, nurturing and culturally responsive home environment that supports independence and life skills.
  • Build positive professional relationships by acting as a role model and engaging children and young people in purposeful, developmentally appropriate activities that promote self worth, social skills and emotional growth.
  • Support family and social connections, encouraging positive relationships with family, peers and other important people and facilitating visits where appropriate.
  • Deliver daily living and household support including cleaning transport, meal preparation, routines and activities.
  • Respond to trauma related needs and behaviours with empathy using trauma informed approaches.
  • Follow care plans to maintain high standards of care, recording information accurately, collaborating with the team, and participating in training.
