About The Position

The Order Management Team creates solutions that empower internal and external customers throughout the customer order lifecycle. This team is a dedicated, cross-functional group supporting Grainger Business Systems applications. You will collaborate with internal business teams and external vendors to deliver enhancements, provide operational support, and implement systems to monitor and analyze critical processes that ensure a smooth and reliable customer experience. By driving enhancements in our order management systems, the team plays a vital role in increasing customer satisfaction, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring seamless order execution. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of configuration and/or development experience across a broad range of enterprise hardware and software technologies.
  • Proficiency in SAP ABAP development and system integration.
  • Deep understanding of SAP modules including SD, FI, MM, and SCM.
  • Experience with modern SAP platforms and technologies: S/4HANA, SAP HANA, SAP BTP, SAP Fiori, SAPUI5.
  • Experience with system integrations, including middleware, APIs, and event-driven architecture using Kafka or equivalent technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and deployment models (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred).
  • Exposure to or experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis capabilities across interconnected systems.
  • Ability to understand and influence enterprise architecture, including system interdependencies and long-term scalability.
  • Solid understanding of business processes and how they are implemented and optimized in SAP environments.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement, customer value, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, develop, maintain, and optimize enterprise-grade commercial software platforms that enable core business processes such as Order Management, Supply Chain, Warehouse Management, Finance, and HR.
  • Translate complex business requirements into scalable, maintainable, and secure technical solutions aligned with Grainger’s architecture standards.
  • Design, configure, deploy, and continuously improve systems and business applications with a clear understanding of their downstream and cross-functional implications.
  • Lead and influence architecture decisions and contribute to technical capability roadmaps.
  • Integrate SAP systems with internal and third-party platforms (e.g., 3PLs, marketplaces, fulfillment systems) to ensure seamless data flow and process alignment across the order lifecycle.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying system inefficiencies, recommending design enhancements, and optimizing business processes for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to align solutions with organizational goals and ensure traceable business outcomes.
  • Promote automation and DevOps practices, contributing to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and monitoring strategies.
  • Monitor production environments, triage and resolve incidents, and implement long-term fixes that improve system resiliency and reduce technical debt.
  • Participate in daily team rituals including stand-ups, tech huddles, desk checks, and pairing sessions.
  • Provide mentorship, knowledge sharing, and coaching to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and accountability.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership by staying up to date on emerging technologies and best practices, and identifying opportunities for innovation.
