With minimal supervision, the Senior Scientific Writer is responsible for working to prepare manuscripts, grant applications and other scientific communication materials on a wide range of research topics. Responsibilities include taking a lead role in the preparation of manuscripts, including preparation of figures, methods, introductions, maintaining references and submissions to journals. This includes providing advice and writing and editing support, with primary writing of specific sections; developing standardized language for methods sections; managing the manuscript submission process, including, team coordination, establishing the application work plan, timeline and deliverables; and ms draft preparation, review and revision. The Senior Scientific Writer undertakes these activities in collaboration with lead scientists. The individual must have demonstrated experience in writing and editing scientific manuscripts in the biomedical research realm; must have exceptional communications and organizational skills; and must be capable of handling both the scientific writing and project management process for manuscript submissions. The individual must also be capable of collaborating with diverse teams of investigators, senior leadership and administrative personnel. Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions Manuscript development. Provides end-to-end scientific writing, editing and project management for manuscript submissions. Support includes: establishing the work plan, timelines and deliverables in collaboration with lead scientists; reviewing and analysis of data, generation of figures, writing and reviewing of selected manuscript sections, and familiarity with subject matter of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases. Project Reports. Assists in the assembly and writing of research reports and documentations for regulatory submissions. Workflow management. Participates in discussions and evaluation of data, tracks submissions, evaluates reviews and generally manages the process of flow of multiple manuscript assemblies, deliverables and submissions. Other Research Development activities. Communicates and collaborates with RDTC staff as needed in support of mission and needs of the JAX community.
