About The Position

The Structural Elucidation & Characterization organization in Rahway, NJ is seeking a motivated scientist with technical expertise in investigating impurities with routine and investigative analysis using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry and optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-MS and ICP-OES) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). As a Senior Scientist in Structural Elucidation & Characterization, you will work with a highly collaborative team of scientists from mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, and process chemistry as well as scientists from other areas in small molecules, vaccines, and biologics. The candidate will be working in an integrated molecular and atomic mass spectrometry group supporting clinical pipeline development. This group is responsible for solving challenging problems from a variety of partner groups and modalities, such as structure elucidation of unknown impurities and degradation products as well as quantitative analysis of elements at trace levels. The candidate will leverage advanced HRMS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS to effectively advance our Company's pipelines at non-GMP and GMP environments across all phases of development.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in sample preparation and quantitative analysis by ICP-MS and/or ICP-OES
  • Hands-on experience in LC-MS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Strong leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive hands-on experience in mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography
  • Experience in structure elucidation across modalities by LC-MS/MS.
  • Hands-on experience in protein sample preparation for MS or ICP MS analysis

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of routine and investigative analysis using ICP-MS, ICP-OES and other related techniques independently and provide interpretation of results as required.
  • Structure elucidation of unknown impurities and degradation products of small molecules, macrocyclic peptides, bioconjugates via developing novel liquid chromatography and high-resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods.
  • Explore and develop new technologies applicable to our field.
  • Demonstrate effective multitasking, prioritization and problem-solving skills in the planning and timely execution of experiments.
  • Documenting work in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Collaborating effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Presenting to project teams and at various cross-functional forums on behalf of the mass spectrometry group.
  • Engaging in the external scientific community, e.g. through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and publications.
  • Author technical reports and scientific presentations.
