About The Position

As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The Chrome Desktop User interface (UI) Platform team is responsible for moving the foundations of the Desktop UI system forward into the modern age for Chrome, an app with 1 billion 30 day active users. The team helps make many of the UI features in Chrome possible. In this role, you will work on a system that handles all of Chrome's desktop native UI and will be expected to provide and act on feedback on this architecture. You will code mostly in C++ on Chrome desktop and you will write and review code for the architecture as well as features in Chrome’s code base. You will have the opportunity to shape both Chrome itself as a platform and provide input on desktop UI Chrome features as they appear. Chrome is dedicated to building a better, more open web. We’re focused on making a better browser (on both desktop and mobile) to help users take advantage of all the web has to offer in a safe and secure way.Chrome is available across all major platforms — iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. We also built Chrome as an open source project so the entire web ecosystem could benefit from the latest innovations in speed, simplicity and security. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $174,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in the C++ programming language.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • Experience with web browser architecture, especially Chromium, or other browser technologies.
  • Experience working on low-level user interface, GPU programming, or related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance existing UI platform features and develop new features for the platform.
  • Review Chrome UI code and designs from different locations like Mountain View, Seattle, Los Angeles, New York, and Munich.
  • Work with PM and User Experience (UX) to make sure the needs of the users are met.
  • Learn the current best practices in UI and apply them to Chrome.
