Your Impact As a Senior Software Engineer II, in the Real Time Operations pillar at Axon, you will be intimately involved in the architecture decisions that will shape our Vehicle Intelligence / Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) products. You live and breathe distributed systems, APIs and full stack services that require high availability and fast, consistent performance. You love working with the latest open source technologies, and can leverage your system design skills to make the right technical decisions on a system that needs to be operationally resilient. Not only can you drive decisions among competing engineering trade-offs, your empathy with customers allows you to develop innovative solutions for our customer problems. You will be working closely with product managers and designers to ensure we are building the right solution for our customers. You also enjoy mentoring other engineers, and love to be a hands-on teacher helping to up level the engineers around you. What You’ll Do Location: This role is based out of our Seattle Office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience designing and delivering highly-available, scalable cloud-based systems
  • Backend service experience in multiple, managed languages such as Go, Java, Python, or similar
  • Experience with frontend technologies including React or Angular
  • Experience working with SQL or NoSQL data stores such as MySQL, Cassandra, elasticsearch
  • You leverage AI agents & tools for the tasks they’re built for, freeing you to focus on the work that requires human creativity, judgment and delivering value to customers

Responsibilities

  • Impact the development and design; launching new features and initiatives
  • Lead engineering architecture design reviews
  • Set a high technical bar for the team through code and architecture design reviews
  • Mentoring & coaching engineers
  • Working across teams with Product, Design, and Engineering to create integrated solutions that delight our customers
  • Identify improvements to raise our engineering process, including long-term thinking
  • Building services that adhere to our high bar on availability and latency in this mission-critical space
  • Scaling our APIs, cloud services and ingestion pipelines
  • Working with the latest Agentic AI engineering tools (Claude, OpenAI / Codex, Cursor)
