About the position

The Compute Access Platform team, part of Bloomberg's Platform Security organization, is responsible for designing and building the systems and tools that control access to Bloomberg's development and production compute resources. We build and support the service required to protect our systems from unauthorized access and allow users, services to access the compute resources seamlessly. Our applications are written in Python, Golang, C and Ruby. Many of our products are built on open source and third party libraries and tools which influence the language we choose to write each application in. We are a mostly backend team, but some of our applications include UI components. We also work with industry standard protocols and tools such as LDAP, SSH and SCIM. We are looking for highly motivated, experienced engineers to help us design and build our next generation of secure access gateway infrastructure. As a senior member of the team you will be responsible for designing and implementing authentication and auditing solutions based on industry standard protocols. We have a number of exciting projects in our roadmap that will help improve our users experience while improving Bloomberg's security stance: In addition to the major projects in our roadmap, the team is also working on adding features and improvements to our existing projects and reducing technical debt.

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute in defining both tools and architectural designs
  • Encourage, mentor and train junior team members
  • Stay up to date with industry standards regarding authentication, authorization, auditing, and open source projects
  • Practice and promote the use of a modern software development lifecycle
  • Autonomously develop technical solutions to achieve objectives and required service levels, performance, and economics
  • Proactively research and follow industry trends, standard methodologies, and open source projects

Requirements

  • 4+ years of programming experience with an object-oriented programming language (Python or Go)
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or similar field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Experience integrating with ubiquitous encryption technologies (PGP, TLS, etc.) and common authentication protocols (RADIUS, LDAP, KERBEROS, etc.)
  • Understanding of Unix or Linux authentication frameworks including PAM, SSH, SSSD and others

Nice-to-haves

  • A strong understanding of Unix or Linux
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
  • Experience building and maintaining critically important distributed systems
