About The Position

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for providing advanced accounting support in the preparation of financial statements, general ledger analysis, and accounts receivable/payable activities. This position handles the more complex accounting needs for the department and is responsible for reviewing the work of other accounting staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following statements describe the principal functions of this position and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may be expected to perform other duties as assigned, including working in other areas to cover absences or balance the workload. Responsible for compliance with general accounting principles, company policies and management’s directives. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities, including HOAs, property management companies, amenity providers, and food & beverage operations. Maintain accurate general ledgers; perform reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, intercompany balances, and key subledgers. Support the Controller in month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting. Analyze financial results, identify variances, and prepare supporting schedules and explanations. Assist with audit preparation, external auditor requests, and regulatory compliance documentation. Assist the Controller in preparing annual budgets and rolling forecasts for all entities. Develop financial models, trend analyses, and operational dashboards. Provide actionable insights to management regarding cost control, revenue optimization, and financial performance. Maintain and enhance internal controls across accounting, cash management, and operational processes. Ensure compliance with sales tax, alcohol reporting, and cash‑handling procedures. Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy. Provide training and guidance to operational staff on financial procedures, reporting tools, and compliance requirements. Support the Controller with special projects, system implementations, and strategic initiatives. Reports any incidents or accounting irregularities to the Controller. Uses independent judgement and discretion to review and approve the work of other accounting staff members. Assists Controllers with higher level and more complex accounting functions as needed. Prepare CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and support annual budget development for associations and managed properties. Stays current with all accounting developments and trends. Ensures the confidentiality and security of all financial files. Serves as an effective member of the team through participation in open discussion. Performs all duties in adherence to OTOW standards. Strives to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices. Maintains a positive and professional demeanor toward all residents, visitors and co­workers. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field required
  • 5+ years of accounting experience required
  • Accounting software experience required, Timberline Accounting, Newstar, Loan Ledger, and Jenark experience preferred
  • Must be able to read, write and understand English and have good verbal and written communication skills
  • PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment) and working knowledge of construction/accounting software programs is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office skills required
  • Proven professional skills and/or knowledge in accounting
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business and professional procedures and governmental regulations
  • Must be able to understand general accounting principles and apply them on a day-to-day basis
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Ability to write business correspondence and procedure manuals
