About The Position

The Senior Staff Attorney serves as specialty counsel providing expert legal advice in specific legal area, on an as-requested basis. Integrates legal advice with business strategy and helps identify and mitigate risk in specialty area. Answer questions and assist administrative and clinical leaders regarding issues in the Specialty Counsel’s area of expertise. Communicate availability when requested to provide assistance. Quickly assimilate facts and apply the law in order to respond effectively and immediately to emergency situations related to Specialty Counsel’s area of expertise. Apply the interpersonal skills necessary to advise leaders as well as to work in conjunction with internal and outside counsel. Review and discuss matters of concern with General Counsel or Director of Legal Services, as appropriate. Prepare and present seminars and training workshops regarding Specialty Counsel’s area of expertise. Makes decisions based on confidential information. Appropriately shares information in performance of job. Work is generally performed in an office environment and involves primarily sitting with some standing and walking. Light effort is required to carry boxes, office supplies or use light tools. Little or no exposure to injury or other health hazards. Work is performed on a hybrid basis, remotely from home office and in-person when needed or requested.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate required.
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience as a practicing attorney, with significant experience in specialty area.
  • Licensed to practice as an attorney by the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.
  • Highest level of ethical standards.
  • Performs responsibilities with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and changing priorities.
  • PC competencies in keyboarding, legal research and Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Demonstrates tact and diplomacy when dealing with difficult or unusual situations.
