About The Position

CGI has an immediate need for a Senior Sybase Database Administrator Engineer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced team environment supporting one of the largest customers. We take an innovative approach to supporting our client, working side-by-side in an agile environment using emerging technologies. A hybrid working model is acceptable. The Senior Sybase Database Administrator Engineer is responsible for the design, administration, support, and optimization of mission-critical Sybase database environments supporting enterprise applications. This role involves hands-on database administration across on-premises and AWS cloud platforms, automation of database operations, and high-availability and replication support. In addition to database responsibilities, the role contributes to system-level application development activities, including analysis, design, development, unit testing, and defect resolution throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The position works closely with internal stakeholders, providing consulting services and technical expertise while supporting multiple concurrent initiatives in a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Sybase database administration
  • 10+ years of software development experience across relevant platforms
  • Extensive hands-on experience administering Sybase ASE (Adaptive Server Enterprise) and Sybase Transact-SQL
  • Strong background supporting Sybase databases in Linux environments, both on-premises and within AWS cloud
  • Experience with database upgrades, migrations, and version management across multiple Linux platforms in AWS
  • Expertise in high availability (HA) configurations, replication setup, performance tuning, and complex troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with AutoSys scheduling, role-based access control (RBAC), and database encryption
  • Hands-on experience automating database operations using Unix shell scripting and Python
  • Strong experience automating backup, monitoring, and configuration processes in AWS cloud environments
  • Production support experience for large-scale, business-critical systems
  • Solid understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Working knowledge of one or more development technologies such as Java/J2EE, EJB, ASP, PowerBuilder, C/C++, SQL, Oracle, Sybase, MQ Series, Visual Basic, CGI, and Windows/NT
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Excellent communication, time management, and technical presentation abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable providing consulting and advisory services to internal customers and stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
