About The Position

Amentum is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join our team in McLean, VA! As the Senior Systems Administrator, you will monitor and maintain corporate communication systems related to email and messaging; troubleshoot hardware, software, and network problems pertaining to the operation of Microsoft Exchange Servers in a Windows Active Directory environment; and oversee the status of issues related to messaging systems with the corporation and ensure that issues are resolved, documented, and closed in a timely manner. Must have an Active Top Secret/SCI US Government clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as Microsoft Exchange Email Administrator, responsible for the design, specification, testing, and implementing of Microsoft Exchange Servers and resolves Exchange email system problems as required. Responsible for identifying, specifying, designing, testing, and implementing new Microsoft Exchange Servers computer technologies, including PC hardware, software, operating system (OS), and related peripherals. Determines when server, software, and OS upgrades are required and ensures that all upgrades are completed as scheduled, and that appropriate documentation exists prior to implementation. Knowledge of building server from start to finish to include (VM) Virtual Machines plus hardware Monitors Microsoft Exchange systems to facilitate proper performance and performs diagnostics as needed. Develops, implements, and documents configuration standards, policies, and procedures for operating, managing, and ensuring the security of Microsoft Exchange server ADS environment. Recommends appropriate actions on proposed Microsoft Exchange ADS projects regarding cost-effectiveness of proposed systems and preferred approaches; offers technical solutions to ensure success of projects, the security of the IT environment, and the efficient use of IT and human resources. Ensures the rigorous application of internal and external information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices. Maintains effective relationship with appropriate vendors and acts as principal coordinator among various vendors to resolve Exchange-related problems. This may involve the design, construction, and execution of complex system tests to identify causes of system degradation and to fix responsibility to specific vendor or vendors. Evaluates Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software to support Microsoft Exchange server; evaluates automation tools as well as special purpose tool as required. Provides general assistance, advice, and critiques to various IT users and management personnel regarding such matters as new or improved Microsoft Exchange system design, testing, and implementing techniques, documentation adequacy, user acceptance testing, and application efficiency/integrity. Serves as technical liaison on matter relating to the Microsoft Exchange ADS environment. Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent in a related field required.
  • Must have a minimum of six years of related experience.
  • Must have thorough understanding of Exchange 5.5/2000/2003.
  • Experience in administering Exchange servers including installation, back-up, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Windows Server NT/2000/2003 and Active Directory Services.
  • Experience with Identity Management Server; knowledge of systems management, performance tuning, and monitoring tools, Backup, Restore, and disaster Recovery planning.
  • Experience building a server (hardware) from scratch to operation
  • Skilled in upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000/2003.
  • Experience with Lagato, Veritas, or similar products; knowledge of anti-virus strategies.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot software and hardware problems, through understanding of industry standards and the ability to work with diverse workforce.
  • Knowledge of project management principles is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to interact with all levels of an organization in a professional, diplomatic, and tactful manner.
  • Must have an Active Top Secret/SCI US Government clearance.
  • Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
