About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to join a small, collaborative, and highly engaged Katz IT team supporting the Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s academic mission. This role focuses on the administration, maintenance, and support of enterprise academic systems that serve the school’s community of students, faculty, and staff. The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for configuring and managing enterprise academic systems used for student services, assessments, curriculum management, and administrative support for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Primarily, the Senior Systems Administrator maintains systems on various platforms supported by LKSOM IT; collaborates with IT team members and staff in analyzing and implementing solutions based on the use of legacy, existing, and emerging systems; provides technical assistance to end-users; assists with the ongoing maintenance, monitoring, and support of third-party vendor-supported computing environments. In addition, the Senior Systems Administrator recommends process improvements; defines and implements strategies for systems managed under direction of Director of IT; communicates and develops ongoing rapport with internal and external contacts to provide complex technical information and service; assesses and anticipates recurring customer needs; understands, influences, and achieves system workflow goals; This position works closely with academic departments/programs, administrative units and third-party vendors to ensure system reliability, user support, and operational continuity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in Information Systems, Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and train users on academic IT system(s).
  • Demonstrated knowledge/ability to utilize a broad range of software products.
  • Experience administering enterprise systems and managing user access and configurations.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with third-party vendors.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience administering enterprise or vendor-supported systems preferred.
  • Experience supporting academic or administrative systems in a complex organizational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary system administrator and operational owner for assigned enterprise academic platforms.
  • Administer, configure, and maintain vendor-supported academic systems, including evaluation, assessment, and scheduling platforms.
  • Manage user access, roles, permissions, and data integrity in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Support academic processes and provide technical and functional support to faculty, staff, and academic administrators using academic systems.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to resolve issues, apply updates, and support system changes.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize disruption to academic operations.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, coordinators, and business offices to gather requirements and implement system solutions.
  • Document system configurations, workflows, and operational procedures.
  • Support the gradual transition of appropriate operational tasks to academic or administrative units as workflows mature.
  • Identify, document, and improve system-supported academic workflows to reduce errors, increase efficiency, and support consistent execution across departments.
  • Analyze recurring operational issues and bottlenecks within academic systems and recommend practical, system-level improvements in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Ensure systems are properly tested prior to production/upgrade changes.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, data standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Respond to service requests and incidents related to academic systems in a timely manner.
  • Participate in meetings and working groups related to academic systems as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director of IT.
  • Serve as backup as needed for IT academic systems.
