About The Position

As the Senior Technical Principal - IT Programs , you will drive IT programs and be the subject matter expert for the assigned business unit, the Senior Principal will be a key influencer in achieving strategic alignment and delivering measurable business value. The Senior Principal will partner with leaders across the business unit to identify and shape high‑impact initiatives that advance business strategy. Beyond technical leadership, this role will carry significant program management accountability, ensuring complex, cross‑functional initiatives are structured effectively, governed well, and executed with clarity and discipline. The person in this role is expected to be an energetic, dynamic, and innovative leader who champions process improvement, drives consistent delivery practices, and enhances the productivity and performance of the assigned business area. The Senior Principal is an established and recognized figure both internally and externally, representing GM Financial in the broader community and serving as a de‑facto ambassador for the organization. Maintaining strong internal and external networks is essential to this role.

Requirements

  • Experience leading cross-functional and/or global initiatives from start to finish, including structuring programs, defining success metrics, and delivering results in complex environments
  • Advanced business acumen and the ability to translate strategic objectives into executable plans
  • Deep understanding of company values, mission, vision, and strategic direction
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GM Financial’s business operations and ecosystem

  • 12+ years in related function(s) required
  • 5-7 years of experience leading through mentorship in related field required
  • 5-7 years of experience driving thought leadership and innovation across products required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree plus 2 additional years of relevant experience required
  • Relevant certifications and/or licenses required

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex projects and initiatives through deep technical expertise and structured program delivery leadership
  • Serve as a trusted partner to senior business leaders, offering both subject matter expertise and program oversight for strategic initiatives within the business unit
  • Drive technical thought leadership while also acting as a program management change agent, advocating for frameworks and methodologies that enable predictable execution, agility, and operational excellence
  • Contribute to the business unit’s vision, goals, and strategies, translating vision into actionable roadmaps, sequenced work plans, and measurable outcomes
  • Promote open communication, information transparency, and alignment across all stakeholders
  • Build and nurture a strong internal network, fostering a culture of trust, inclusion, engagement, and integrity across teams
  • Drive cross-team solutions and ensure program interdependencies, risks, and issues are proactively identified, communicated, and resolved
  • Establish effective governance mechanisms, including routines for status reporting, executive updates, milestone tracking, and decision‑making
  • Ensure programs adhere to scope, budget, timelines, and quality expectations, balancing technical considerations with business impact
  • Facilitate collaboration among product, engineering, operations, and business partners, aligning priorities and ensuring cohesive delivery
