Summary The Senior Transportation Planner 1 provides planning services including preparing transportation system plans, modal plans, long-range plans, transportation studies, transportation planning work programs, and other transportation-related planning documents. Duties include conducting research, data analysis, technical writing, and plan development, leading public meetings and outreach, preparing presentation materials and graphics, agency and stakeholder coordination, and other duties as assigned. The person in this position is expected to exercise a strong work ethic, desire to learn new skills, and have great organizational and communication skills. A successful Senior Transportation Planner 1 should demonstrate proficiency in and assist with managing transportation planning concepts, apply functions including land use and transportation relationships, short-range and long-range planning, transportation system planning and analyses and evaluation, transportation public policy, traffic engineering, environmental analysis, public involvement and communications, land use planning, and community development. A Senior Transportation Planner 1exercises discretion and judgement in all work tasks. This person is expected to work well with others, absorb and apply constructive criticism, and seek input and guidance from more experienced members of the team as necessary. This position will work with very limited guidance from a more experienced Transportation Planner.

  • 6 years of experience required
  • 5 years of experience required with advanced degree

Responsibilities

  • Preparing transportation system plans, modal plans, long-range plans, transportation studies, transportation planning work programs, and other transportation-related planning documents
  • Conducting research, data analysis, technical writing, and plan development

  • Leading technical efforts on a variety of project types, sizes, and complexities

  • Producing transportation system analyses, transportation planning reports, policy papers, meeting agendas and minutes, and public involvement and communication materials associated with transportation planning projects independently and overseeing others with less experience
  • Developing budgets and schedules for complex tasks
  • Breaking down complex projects into logical tasks
  • Mentoring others on scopes, schedules, and budgets
  • Prioritizing multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget
  • Interpreting and following transportation planning documents programs, codes, and state and federal regulations
  • Leading client project meetings
