About The Position

Susser Bank, a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial Texas regional bank, is seeking a seasoned Senior Underwriter with deep expertise in both Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) lending. This is a 100% in-office, high-impact role on a collaborative credit team that independently underwrites complex middle-market credits across Texas. The successful candidate will carry their own deal load while actively mentoring and developing junior analysts and associate-level team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive commercial banking underwriting experience with significant exposure to both C&I and CRE (owner-occupied and investor) credits.
  • Proven ability to independently underwrite complex C&I and CRE transactions.
  • Strong Texas market knowledge across multiple industries and property types (multifamily, retail, office, industrial, medical office, self-storage, hospitality, etc.).
  • Advanced financial spreading and cash-flow modeling skills
  • Formal credit training strongly preferred (RMA Commercial Lending School, Omega, Stonier, or bank equivalent).
  • Excellent written and presentation skills with a track record of writing concise, persuasive credit narratives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently underwrite new and existing C&I and CRE credits/relationships ranging from $3 million – $50+ million (term loans, revolving lines of credit, owner-occupied and investor CRE, construction, ABL, equipment finance, and syndicated/participated facilities).
  • Perform full financial analysis and global cash flow on borrowers, sponsors, and guarantors (spreading historical and projected financials, enterprise value analysis, tax returns, personal financial statements, rent rolls, operating statements, etc.).
  • Conduct in-depth CRE analysis including property cash flow (NOI/DSCR), valuation review (appraisals, BOVs), lease review, environmental reports, market studies, and construction budgets/draw schedules when applicable.
  • Assess industry risk, management quality, collateral adequacy, repayment capacity, and assign accurate dual risk ratings.
  • Prepare comprehensive, well-written credit approval memoranda that clearly identify risks, mitigants, policy exceptions (if any), and recommended structure/covenants.
  • Present credits in formal credit committee and defend recommendations.
  • Partner closely with commercial relationship managers to structure credits that win business while protecting the bank.
  • Actively manage an assigned portfolio segment: conduct annual reviews, interim monitoring, borrowing-base oversight, covenant testing, and financial/trending analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate assignment and ongoing validation of risk ratings; proactively identify migration and recommend rating adjustments as conditions change.
  • Actively mentor, train, and develop junior underwriters and credit analysts through deal reviews, shadowing, and formal training sessions.
  • Contribute to ongoing refinement of credit policy, underwriting standards, concentration monitoring, and portfolio stress testing.
