About The Position

The Server / Prep Cook is a dynamic, hybrid role and an integral part of a 3 - 7 person team supporting both meal service and kitchen operations. This position is primarily focused on serving and distributing meals , meal packing and light food preparation. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with students while also supporting kitchen production. The ideal candidate is reliable, team-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in food service, school food, or a high-volume kitchen environment
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • ServeSafe certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days; reimbursement available)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude and team-oriented mindset
  • Passion for improving nutrition and health in schools
  • Must be able to read and write in English (bilingual Spanish a plus)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly

Responsibilities

  • Portion and serve meals to students in accordance with Red Rabbit and state guidelines
  • Present and distribute meals with professionalism, dignity, and efficiency
  • Ensure timely service aligned with school schedules
  • Accurately count and track meals served to ensure compliance and minimize waste
  • Represent Red Rabbit’s culture and values when interacting with students and school staff
  • Pack and organize meals for service and distribution
  • Assist with transporting and setting up meals for service
  • Support inventory counts and ensure accurate meal tracking
  • Maintain organization of service areas before, during, and after meal periods
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks (washing, portioning, light prep)
  • Follow recipes and production sheets as directed by the Head Chef
  • Support kitchen team with plating and finishing dishes as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace that exceeds Department of Health (DOH) standards
  • Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to meet daily production and service goals
  • Perform other duties as assigned
