About The Position

SHELF-LIFE TECHNICIAN R&D – WILLMAR CO (WILLMAR, MN) To save time applying, Hormel Foods does not offer sponsorship of job applicants for employment-based visas for this position at this time. RESPONSIBILITIES: Implements & administers shelf-life testing of the various Hormel/Jennie-O products, including items from Hormel plants and co-packers. Tasks include initiating and conducting shelf-life studies, product evaluations, data collection, analysis, and reporting, including assembly and use of equipment for required experiments. Communicates results that will lead to improved, innovative, and creative applications to support the company goals and objectives. Provide support to scientists and development leaders in numerous areas of R&D (food safety research, product development, and sensory/shelf-life. Maintains current and future inventories of shelf-life products, monitors cooler temperatures, storage periods, and cutting schedules. Creates shelf-life studies and enters data in the Jennie-O Lab Information Management System (QL) Maintains sensory & shelf-life records with supervision. Intermediate knowledge of sensory principles, kitchen equipment, lab equipment (pH meter, colorimeter, gas analyzer) working knowledge of pilot plant equipment - slicers, packaging equipment Responsible for proper and safe operation and maintenance of all relevant equipment in the Shelf-life areas. May assist with benchtop laboratory studies utilizing chemical and biological materials.

  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, LIMS databases, &/or other commonly used programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the metric system, scientific principles, &/or food science experience.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment including Microsoft Office platform - Excel, Outlook, Word, & PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Lab Information Management Systems (QL)
  • ServSafe® certification
  • Ability to work independently
